The biggest event today was probably the CEO Roundtable. Champ Mitchell from Network Solutions was not able to come. Bob Parsons was hilarious as usual, and he is the only CEO that travels with bodyguards. I bumped into him and the bodyguards on the elevator and asked him about them. They stiffened-up and he told me that they were to protect him from people like me on elevators.

Peter Forman from Register.com, Rob Hall from Pool and NameScout.com, Eric Harrington from Moniker, A second-in-command from Network Solutions, Clint Page from Dotster, Bob Parsons from GoDaddy, Paul Stahura from eNOM and Jay Westerdal from Name Intelligence agreed on much more than they disagreed on. (There was also someone from MelbourneIT.) There was general agreement that ICANN needed to have more teeth and enforce the regulations better than they have been doing.

I tried to talk Sedo and Afternic to use a common Excel template so we could all upload our names in bulk to both of them. I'm not sure that will happen.

The chemistry was really amazing, with IP attorneys and ICANN and Verisign employees mixing it up with domainers. I think that we are getting more respect and our sites are seen more as legitimate businesses than they were in the past.

I believe that recordings will be available at a very reasonable fee, and I hope to get copies of many of the sessions that I wasn't able to attend.

It ends tomorrow. I had my Treo 600 with me but I didn't think of taking pictures for some reason. I did get a couple of pictures of the space needle this evening after the Name Intelligence Awards. There were around 200 in attendance, probably a little disappointing for the Name Intelligence people.

I certainly hope they will do it again, but they haven't promised that. I think they'll need to look at the books and decide.

Kind of interesting to have bodyguards about 30-40 feet away from you. Only thing they seem to be able to stop is a regular street robbery of his earing :)

CEO roundtable was definately interesting but different opinions from quite a few guys on the growth of portfolioing value and cpc.

Some pissed of resellers really getting interesting to listen to. But overall a blast to meet people from Sedo, BD, Pool, Snapnames and see at least what they are in person.

That was some earring, though...
Hehehe Healing. They should put that into godaddys next commercial on TV. I have bodyguards just to protect my shiny ear piece.

The only reason he's got bodyguards is because he's a paranoid freak that has gotten to think that "anti-Bush" activists are after him for his redneck opinions. Of course having millions to waste at untargeted Superbowl audience doesn't help your cause either.

It was great talking with Parsons about the Superbowl ad. He said that Godaddy is thinking very seriously about advertising again for the Superbowl in 2006.

The Conference has been superb, in every way. DomainIntelligence has done an outstanding job. The number of sessions is a bit overwhelming.

See DNJournal.com for some really good coverage of the event, as well as TRAFFIC WEST.

Healing, check your image size there....

I finally got a can of HiO's water, which carried me through a four hour long panel discussion followed by a walk from Pike's Market, along the waterfront, and back through Belltown. Great stuff!

Wow, this was some event. I believe they're going to be discussing this next week to decide whether or not it should be held again next year. I found the multiple sessions a little overwhelming at first too but there was always something going on that I was interested in, plus the audios will be available afterwards for the ones I couldn't attend. I think the recognition of ccTLDs as a growing market and the draw backs to them being managed by independent governments was especially informative. The networking opportunities a huge plus as well. I think I'm addicted to these things now, looking forward to TRAFFIC East.

Thanks to everyone who attended!

The Domain Roundtable was a fantastic success this year, and there will be a Domain Roundtable 2006 after hearing so much positive feedback from everyone who attended.

We'll be posting photos on the Domain Roundtable website, and there have been some outstanding responses from the attendees.

What a great show, and what a phenomenal turnout. Not just quantity, but quality of participants.

Quick, be the first one to call the date LOL

The date for Domain Roundtable was set first, and having schlepped around three corners of the continent to attend both quality events, I certainly hope... no, I expect... the juvenile scheduling shenanigans can be avoided in the future.

The people on the domain policy end of things which predominated at the Domain Roundtable conference could sorely benefit from being exposed to the domainers and business folks at TRAFFIC, and vice versa. One ICANN official who offered, and received no response, to attend the first TRAFFIC event told me, "I don't need to be uninvited twice," and that's a real shame. Running a multi-million business based on domains, while having no interest or input into the regulatory apparatus which controls the terms on which those domains are maintained is a recipe for disaster.

I don't know what it is with images now. My images look fine to me, but HiOSilver's signature image is broken (using FireFox) Can anyone confirm or do I need to upload mine again?

Great meeting you there, John. Say hi to Sue and Bill for me

(He jokes that these are names of his sister and brother. He was one of the funniest lawyers there, but it seemed like a competition at times.)

Yours is ok, but HiOSilver's signature image needs some fixing.
