"The date for Domain Roundtable was set first, and having schlepped around
three corners of the continent to attend both quality events, I certainly
hope... no, I expect... the juvenile scheduling shenanigans can be avoided
in the future.
The people on the domain policy end of things which predominated at the
Domain Roundtable conference could sorely benefit from being exposed to
the domainers and business folks at TRAFFIC, and vice versa. One ICANN
official who offered, and received no response, to attend the first
TRAFFIC event told me, "I don't need to be uninvited twice," and that's a
real shame. Running a multi-million business based on domains, while
having no interest or input into the regulatory apparatus which controls
the terms on which those domains are maintained is a recipe for disaster"
First of all: the dates for T.R.A.F.F.I.C. WEST were determined the day
after the close of T.R.A.F.F.I.C. 2004, (TO WIT : October 26th) but wasn't
announced until the venue was obtained and a contract was signed. Threfore
your "Juvenile scheduling shenanigans" was erroneous, misplaced and
offensive.
Second: when it was determined that there was a conflict, we spoke with
Jay Westerdall about combining the shows in Las Vegas, but he wasn't
interested. In fact, he said that he would call me back, but never did.
Third: I don't know who the ICANN official was that you are referring to,
but we NEVER received an offer from such an official to attend. In fact,
I recall that you mentioned to me that an ICANN official was in the
neighborhood of Delray Beach and should be invited. I specifically told
you that we would love to have him attend and to have him contact me to
make such attendance possible and I never heard anything further from you
or him.
At the very least, you owe us an apology for these misstatements that
simply fan the fires of distress between the 2 parties.
