howdy
recently Ive noticed more threads on domains being hijacked and stolen and I cant say Ive ever seen a comprehensive thread on how to protect domains.
maybe Im lazy with the search function and it exists already (?) but for every one of me, theres a hundred other lazier domainers who arent thinking about this either so maybe this helps someone else also. k:
What are the best practices in proctecting your domains from hijack or theft?
Obvious things to me, although I'll admit to being a noob in some things:
- using strong and seperate passwords on all registrar accounts,
- registrar locks for what theyre worth
- seperate email accounts for whois versus daily operating accounts
- spotted a suggestion to use POP accounts rather than free email accounts for whois
- scanning for keyloggers was another suggestion I saw in Ashaw's recent thread
- anti-virus, firewall etc
- keeping off-computer backups of all emails and data (i use a mybook)
What are your best practices for protecting your investments and hard work? Could I be doing some things better?
thanks!
Mike
