Personally, until I find a better word, I will prefer 'Domain Owner' myself. :)

It's like, 'Home Owner' is better than 'Homer'.. imho.

More thoughts are welcome!

thanks,

I agree with typist in that domainer sounds very casual, at least to outsiders. For us lot domainer if fine.

I like sevent's "domain name investor", although still not obvious to outsiders without a bit of explanation.

aZooZa's businessman is also good. That's how my wife normally describes me.

I don't like the term "domainer". Domain Owner investor sounds much better.

I don't really like Domainer. I think it sounds too amateurish. I just tell others that I am simply an "Investor" or "Entreprenuer", and that's it.

But I do think this one sounds quite complex and smart: "Internet intellectual property entrepreneur". I like it. :)

Domain owner is a general term for all the millions of people who own domain names, for either personal use or business. Some use domain names to make revenue as webmasters, some use them to make revenue from PPC feeds, some use them for a family website, some do not use them at all. All of these people fall into the category of "domain owners".

Of all the domain owners, only a small percentage can be called "a domainer". Domainers are the internet enterpreneurs focusing on domain name speculation and monetization. They are the people who make a living(or partial living) from monetizing domain names, or selling them to resellers / end users.

A domainer is also a domain owner, whereas a domain owner is not necessarily a domainer.

I personally, when asked, I say that I am a "Domain name Investor"

A "domainer" is generally defined as a person or entity which generates revenue through the sale and resale of domain names.

A "domain owner" could be defined as a person or entity which owns one or more domain names.

As you can see, there is a substantial difference between the two.
