All i know is...it's hard to convince a non-domainer the real investment value in domains. But when the dollars start rolling...they all start believing... :)

Agreed, wife was hard on me when I first started and was on the comp all the time...but now she doesnt mind since the money is coming in....

"...I understand this is your hobby and I don't have problem with it; just tell me when you reach seven figures ROI - I'm not interested in subject right now..."

i told him- some people have hobbies- ones they pay for. like scrapbooking- nice hobby, and you have to pay for the materials. this is kinda like that- only i get a return on my materials. he has been great about it- i am lucky.

Love that post.

My wife is non-domainer ( sounds like I am saying she's an alcoholic ) and stood by me figuring I would make some good decisions and some bad ones.

I think we need a support group for people married to domainers.

To be honest most of my domaining happened when she went to bed in the early years.

As long as you're successful ;)

Yeah for real she cries when i pay $500 for a domain but when i sell it for 5K she's running down the shops to buy some underwear to celebrate later that night

Pretty close. She holds Masters in Architecture and has very creative mind worth more than seven figures to me.

My wife is a non-domainer, and I'm glad! The idea of two domainers married together seems a little weird to be honest. She supports what I do, which is all that matters.

So it sounds like we don't have any domainer-domainer relationships. Too bad. I'd like to hear about how that works. I imagine there would be pluses and minuses to that arrangement.

If any 2-domainer marrieds are out there, please chime in!

“She who must be obeyed” shows a vague interest in any name that I develop
She just does not understand the concept of parked names, thinking that parking income is an elaborate smoke screen, to cover up my outrageous expenses.

There can't be... they would be bidding against each other at the auctions!

I think all non-domainers have difficulty understanding why we spend the time we do on the computer. That being said, I think if the other half can see the end results in terms of real value they might be ok with it. If you sell a domain and take them to dinner or something like that. I don't know of any domainer married to a domainer couples, are there any? I would like to know that also.

Nice to know I'm in good company. Still same questions still rolling in. What do you do, why, how much time, etc.

That's funny....

Seriously too, how weird would it be if your spouse asked you questions like why are you parking that domain there, the PPC has dropped since last year. Imagine the children as they stare with eyes glazed over. Pass the salad, oh by the way did you see how much lovemybiscuits.com sold for at TDNAM. I mean who buys these names. I think we should invest in more IDN's while it's quiet but I swear if you buy one .mobi no love making for a year, ok, a week but still, no .mobi's or else no law and order tonight.

LOL...

Seriously, raise your hand if you ever heard your spouse day any of these words:

rick

LOL - Great comments (and imaginations)! We do seem to have developed our own language. I'm amazed that when I tell someone I'm a domain names investor, I still get the question, "What are domain names?"

the trick is, just don't tell them :) I aways score more points by just saying that I run an Internet company which is true...it sure sounds a lot better (to most women at least) than "trading markets" or "play poker" or "buy domain names"...

I think to most spouses the main question is "where's the money honey?". Domaining can take a lot of time on the computer, so there has to be some 'payback' for that to the family, otherwise it's just like playing games or chatting online all the time.

wow! my wife was the same as well. she used to complain about me spending more than $1,000 but once it doubled (and more some), she began to support me.

This thread is fantastic - I got a laugh out of so many posts.

No one in my life understands my domain addiction or any of my other online dealings for that matter but often people come to me with names they made up, in the hopes of helping me find the next big $ domain and I think thats sweet - even if none are ever worth even reg fee - maybe one day lol. My husband has little interest but is supportive so long as the money is worth my time but he doesn't really understand it.
