If I was them and I spent $8500 on that name, I would not be feeling too well right now. Nice name, but that price is re-dick-u-lus.

$8500 for that name is insane.

i often see the namewinner bidding getting way out of hand. sometimes the bids surpass end-user prices in my opinion. i don't really use NW anymore as a result.

It's also important to realize that there are many people to whom $8000 is a pocket change.

I dont htink those are the ones planning on reselling the domains, except for BD.

There no longer is much money left to be made on high end names @ NW unless you have a buyer who has a price before hand...

It's also important to realize there might be the possibility of NW high bidders not having to pay the full high bid we see but just a fraction of it.
Those insane high bids that occur more and more on NW might just be a kind of defensive bidding in possible agreement with NW so when the "insane high bidder" gets the name say for his 8k bid he might only have to pay like 5k - i could imagine that happen with *very regular* good NW customers who have initials with B and D :)
Some sort of discount so to speak.

But what do i know :D

Beatz,

This has been mentioned a number of times about the big players not paying the full price.

But, I don't think that is the case. They may get some special services. However, I don't think they get a price reduction.

It is just that the big 3 have deeper pockets. (And, BD thinks it is monopoly money - money not having real value.)

Also, if they are making money on the domains they own. Then, they are comfortable buying add'l names.

My question is what do they want for it if they paid that much?

$8557.00? :)

I am just wondering how they paid so fast...
I know that there are credit cards with really high limits but I don't know... And even so I wouldn't like my credit card to have such a high limit. Would you?

I guess they're not supposed to pay that much, just because they set the "Proxy Bid" too high[maybe USD 10000]

or maybe I'm wrong....

If it were that much I think there would need to be a security check or some type of verification of the buyer but that probably didn't take more than a fax.
When I paid pool.com I had to fax them a copy of my credit card both front and back and my drivers license.

sometimes I wonder not to sell the domain but to let it drop - and have an agreement with the "catching" registra to give you a certain percentage - this would make more sense then trying to sell domains @ wholesale or approaching / waiting for an end user

Interesting idea, but it would take too long. It would make a lot of sense tho if you just could not sell certain names. That way, you have one last option to make money off a domain.

You'd have tomake a lot of deals with a lot of drop services & even then it could slip through.
