I am looking for some opinions here please. I have a bunch of questions about dotCO. Dot CO - will it be successful? how do you think it will affect the value of .com domains? how will google treat dot co as a TLD in its heirachy - will .com still get preference?

The official dot CO site gives little information other than selling their new TLD. Nowhere can I find out when will .CO domains actually be live and searchable as websites on the net??? The .CO site teels us when release dates are for the different phases but no mention of the above. Other than their official site I have not been able to find any .CO sites in type in searches of what would be premium names.

The questions, and the resultant answers, have a huge effect on selling .com domains, even top level premium names!! Have prospective buyers of .com domains already registered the same names as .CO and will hold out for .CO to be launched?

I personally am currently approaching large companies in certain market segments with packages of premium names that I have registered - so I am concerned about what effect does the advent of .CO have on the value of current .com portfolios?

Should .com names be sold off quickly before everyone out there becomes wise to .CO (the major prospective customers already are aware - if not they should sack their webmasters)?

Hence I suppose opinions are sought - is .co a real threat or will it fizz as did .info after its launch?

If anyone has the answer to this $64 question I will pay $65:)

cheers, Mike

Outside a handful of people who might embrace the "Company" hack, generally the value is going to still be for a .COM typo traffic only IMO.

As the registry is promoting the extension heavily, I believe it will be successful. It will never be a threat to .COM and part of the value will be the type in traffic from .COM typo.

Yes, drop all your .com. .com is over. Everybody is going to switch to .co. My crystal ball told me.

The domain is going to be succesful but it truely is silly to think and current or future extension will take .com. To even discuss that says you really don't know the domain industry well enough and should probably let things be until you have a grasp of the basics. (especially venturing into new ccTld releases because there are different techniques/tactics etc that domainers tend to follow) Seasoned domainers always have a sentrance strategy and should have an exit strategy for roll outs.

Surprised you have them already, I thought the premium/all names were going to be auctioned off? Those premium names will sell for silly money and then people will realise they have been sold another pup after a few months?

I foresee a small niche for them, with newbs/columbians and the big money guys who buy up the likes of sex & flowers etc. I can see the owners of .com's trembling over the thought of a South American cctld usurping the mighty com- serves then right if they don't pre reg the .co equivalent. Oops I forgot all the new tm's being acquired by the usual suspects and subsequently can pick the cream at sunrise.
