Hello DNForum,

What do you think e-Buy.com is worth?

_________________________________________________________________

Here is a little food for thought. According to BBC News, 9 years ago, a £4.6m ($7m) offer was made for e-Buy.com and associated trademarks.

FYI: None of the original trademarks are in effect today.

The owner of the domain at the time decided he would make more money by using the name himself.

Now let’s fast forward 9 years. What is this domain worth today?

Please note that e-Buy.com receives 275 visitors per day on the average.

Also, the current Alexa Traffic Rank is: 866,043

Additionally, the domain is over 12 years old.

What do you think?

Thank you for your time!

You know the answer very well, the owner was an idiot, period. Anyone can make a site with Alexa 866k in under a day.

I think this is one of those names they are worth the multiple of what they earn parked.

Yes, but definitely not 7 million, and with ebay.com on board it would be quite stupid to start a large business on a hyphenated sidekick. (ebuy.com is parked..)

It looks like the offer included the far superior eBuy.com and quite a few other domains as well as the associated trademarks. Bet he has been regretting that sale for the past decade.

I don't think this has a lot more value than what any other e(hyphen)Name.com's sell for when they rarely do sell.

In regard to the offer, regardless of the article you reference, the flagship item was in fact the hyphenated version. Don't ask me why. It just was.

Also, please take in to account the current Alexa ranking and traffic when providing an appraisal. :eek:k:

Based on the traffic and history, maybe 10k to 15k, a fraction of that old offer. If another end user steps up then it could go higher. I am surprised it gets that much traffic.

As I said. It depends on what that traffic is bringing to you. Name itself is not worth more then any regular LLLL, and since it have a hyphen, you know.

So value depends on how much you can get per month monetizing it. Then probably 3-5 years multiple of that.

I think xx,xxx range considering the UV volume.

I wonder what happended with the original owner. Has he gone mad due to his mistake and forgot to renew the domain OR sold it at low price?

I think the last owner was a looser i have knocked some deals back for x,xxx and low xx,xxx on names and a few months down the line i have thought i should of sold but for
$7 million a hyphenated name lol it makes you laugh i think maybe the reason he knocked it back was greed he was probebly after 30 mill or somthing stupid . i think right now you would be lucky to get mid x,xxx for it .

the domain is worth to us resellers, what it makes in revenue X's the reasonable amount of months we are willing to pay for it.

an end-user may be hesitant to use for branding, without owning "ebuy.com" as well.

that alone reduces the number of potentials.

alexa ratings mean 0 to me and end-users, so that criteria is useless for appraisal value

actual traffic stats and revenue are what's important, because they help to increase the confidence in your explanation to us or a potential buyer, why you think it is worth $$$

the best thing you could do is develop into online discount merchandise sales, thru some affiliate or dropshipper.

imo...

My thoughts exactly. I have it parked and am looking into some CJ programs.
