I usually only put names on eBay that I am going to let expire. I try to give 2 months lead time so the winner does not get slapped with renewal fees right off the bat.

When I do the above, I:

1) never bold (waste of $5 IMHO)
2) No reserve
3) Start at $0.01
4) term: PayPal only, free transfer (what they bid is what they pay)

Every so often, I will do the eBay $25 appraisal.

I will put up a name that I think is great as a featured category auction, no bold, with a HIGH reserve and a 0.01 minumum bid. I will do this to get a gauge of what might be paid.

The bottom line is I never sell anything seriously on eBay. The "successful" actions are always featured category where they get a lot of exposure.

Good luck.

Thanks Bob...I appreciate the info and experience and from all otehrs that care to share their methods/eperience.

I have a number of names that I am not going to renew/or just want to unload and want to try ebay out on ( the right way this time ).

As to the free transfer...I'm with Bulkregister and I was told all I need to do is change all the info to the name and BR assigns a id with which the new registrant can transfer out to their own registrar or if they have a BR account I could just push it to them. So I guess...it would be free if their registrar didn't charge.

Does anyone out there have Bulkregister exeperience that could clarify this for me?

Thanks again ... I appreciate the help.

zoot - I have always used the free counter on all my auctions, and have found that auctions that are "feature plus" get tons more hits.

A non-featured may get, say 100 views on a 3-day auction. A featured may get 500-600 on a 3-day auction.

Although, it does cost $20, so it may not be worth it if selling so-so names. You may break even.

Hope this helps a little.

I use Ebay to sell all my domain names and websites and have had a pretty good success rate, I'd say.

You can check out my past auctions at http://www.developeddomains.com/ebay

I always do the following.

1. Always BOLD (Only $2 and it makes it stand out more than a highlight)
2. Always Feature it ($19.95)
3. Never use the gallery or featured gallery.
4. Start all auctions at $1
5. I never use the Buy It Now option. Too risky since someone could set up a bogus account, buy it now, and not pay. Some sellers will do this so their auctions have less competition.
6. I always make my auctions private. Many bidders don't want to be shown that they are buying a domain name. They'll get mass spams from other sellers trying to sell them other domain names. This also protects me, since many users will email your bidders to try to pursuade them not to buy or they have something better, etc. Bad business, but it does happen.
7. Make your description as detailed as possible. Remember, this is your sales pitch to buyers. Make it good!
8. Use the free counter. It will show buyers (and you) how popular the auction is.

These are my personal preferences, so you'll have to decide what is best for your auction and what you want to spend.

Most of my auctions are for complete websites and yahoo listed domain names, so they have more value, but it should work for single and multiple domain names as well.

Hope this helps! Good luck in the auction!

Zoot -

Regarding BulkRegister.

The have "free" transfers. You can create a new BR handle and then assign the handle to the name. Then, when they do a WHOIS lookup, they will see thier contact information on that name. The last time I knew, BulkRegister's WHOIS database was not realtime. They update it every twelve hours.

The bad thing about BulkRegister is once you change the contact info for somebody, they STILL cannot log in and access the name (unless you give them the password to your account). The lack of subaccounts is the main reason I am transferring all of my names away (I have 3 left out of about 130).

Bob--what are the rules about duplicate listings on eBay?

I see some people with the same thing listed 10 times in a row.

I've had more luck by listing domains NOT in the domain category or at least also listing them elsewhere. Example: listing a photo related domain name in the photography category, or an antique domain in the antiques section.

Don't bother with poor names. the costs of listing, and relisting are too high to recover costs at todays prices.

Also, very few names sell for more than $100 on ebay. I see names listed for thousands all the time and think about the wasted listing fees. Usually the names are poor anyway, but also the high stakes buyers don't normally look for domains on ebay. Ebay is generally a buyers market, not a sellers. I've "dumped" a number of so-so domains there, and may have been bought by other resellers looking for good deals or even steals.

Interesting....I like the idea of listing multiple catagories.

I could see where pointnshoot.com would almost get more exposure in the photo section.

I have no illusions of what a name would sell for on ebay. I have a number of names that I wil probalby let drop...might as well see if I could get something outta them :)

Thanks for the tip
