The thing about modern history is that doesn't take 20 years to repeat! With technology it has sped up time between "takes".

To be sure we must be careful at reading "history" that occured less than 5 years ago. No longer will we have the benefit of analyzing the previous 19 years to get our bearing straight.

You will see a lot of mistakes in the next few years because of this "Murphy's Law" effect as it relates to previous historical occurrances. The reason is most people will assume they have more time than they realize to learn from the past.

Having said all this my outlook on "modern history" is it WILL repeat itself over and over in short 5 year spans until the majority of the population realizes that we don't have much time to learn from our past mistakes (izopod, circa 2002).

So "history" by my watch will be on our doorstep in oh, 3 years time (2005). Be ready!!! My feeling is that by 2010, the "cycle of history" will be even quicker in coming. This leads me to believe that in time the past, present and future will occur simultaneously (which they kind of do anyways). What maybe a "great product" today will be replaced by a more efficient model tomorrow. Get ready for shorter product lifecycles. We are kind of seeing this now, but it will be on a greater scale in the future.

We will have more choices in the future to make then we ever dreampt of!! We'll also have to be ready to "dump" solutions quicker, adopt new ones to stay "ahead of the competition". You may say that "you would never do this" as you don't change your mind that quickly, but the process will be a lot more fluid than you think. My guess is we will have products that we will have the ability to alter to handle the new "efficiencies". The reason is because why build a new car when you can just retrofit it with a new service (economic efficiencies). Also because of the short product lifecycles. The costs of rebuilding will be prohibtive. It will be like ordering new "cable services". We'll need a manual to just keep track of all the new services that will have access to.
