How can I figure out how much traffic domains at places like NameJet will receive? The only place I know that lists stats is GoDaddy and even they are notorious for not being reliable with them. I'm sure some dropped domains get heavy traffic but how are we to know which ones they are?

Trust me domains with heavy traffic go for thousands lot's of ways to estimate including alexa, quantcast etc, forget godady traffic stats they include bots as well and yet i see mugs paying silly money because they think the traffic is great with an alexa of 10 million LOL

alexa is NOT a reliable tool for predicting traffic for expiring/dropped domains

imo...

what is a reliable tool?

this is not sarcastic in nature

but the most reliable tools are "common sense and experience"

you have to ask yourself...

why would this domain have traffic

how long would the traffic last

if there was traffic, what country does it come from

if there is traffic, what are the visitors looking for

is the traffic, type-in traffic or from links on other websites, or was it a former website

these are "common sense" questions that "experienced" domainers ask themselves, before purchasing domains

the next step is doing the research to find the answers to those questions

:)

imo...

Thats the kind of response I was expecting. And actually, I'm glad you said that.

I specifically haven't bought any traffic domains due to the fact that most of them don't make sense at all. If I find a domain that happens to have traffic, I check all the backlinks to see if they are valid and fit the content. If there are no backlinks, i know right off the bat that its fake traffic.

finding if traffic is natural, expired or scammed makes a domainer different from others

rubbish - backlinks are in many cases completly worthless and a domain name with no backlinks can very well have wonderful traffic - i bought over the past 10 years 1000's of domains at auction .

agree, the vast majority of type-in traffic domains don't have backlinks

I meant if the domain was not a good domain name. Of course a good generic .com is going to get good traffic without backlinks. I was more saying if there is a domain called tlzjyxq.com and it has tons of traffic with no backlinks.

Sorry I didn't explain myself better. You are right.
