What a disappointing ending to such a great show.

Yes, it was but, how else could they have ended it? The commentary did put the ending into perspective. (Kinda hard to talk about it w/o giving spoilers - I'll use the 48 hour rule - we can discuss spoilers tomorrow morning).

... at least it wasn't as disappointing as the final episode of Lost.

I'll give it that. Lost went off the rails the whole last season and ended in a train wreck.

Dexter held it together reasonably well until the last 5 minutes.

How else could they have ended it? I can think of several ways that would have been much more satisfying. For just one idea, look across the way at how Breaking Bad is doing it right now.
