Nice time wasting facility provided by microsoft to those who don't reside stateside
They don't tell you until after choosing a domain, agreing to conditions and signing into the passport network that the only country for your address is USA.
Hard to fake it, because they also want a cc and ss numbers to verify

uhh, register domains like normal maybe?

I wouldn't want one of their domains anyway. Probably full of bugs!

Is this the kind of information you guys give out to just anybody?
If you're not buying anything whats the cc for?
And WHY the ss!!.........Sheesh........

they don't ask for your SSN, thats a bald faced lie. Your cc# is expected. although you are not charged, the entire Office Live system is being BETA'd, that includes the billing verification system. Also, if you so choose (like many companies that are using the beta as a live product) to keep with them as your office system, once Live goes :live", your already set up.

but again, no SSN is required, asked for or otherwise requested.

If you are familiar with MS products, it looks just like a Sharepoint site.

Here is my free domain - I just threw something up to get it started...

http://wiiwon.com

I was hoping to just add a bit of content and sprinkle some google and chitika ads on the thing but it looks like there is no way to access the source code.

My mistake
They ask for the security number on your credit card not your SSN
You certainly have a charming way of pointing out mistakes Lee

I think this will be a feature in Vista. Think of the install base. People who never had a domain will want to get one to put a free site up. If you have a domain you can transfer a name to their service. So when, millions of people find out that the domain they want is taken, they will go to aftermarket to get it

The distinction between thetotaljunkdotcomsthatareavailablenow.com and the totaljunkdotcomsthatwillbeavailablethen.com are going to be virtually indistinguishable, so what impact can this reasonably have?
