You do not need to register a FREE domain to use the service. If you have a domain or buy a domain on aftermarket you can transfer it and use Microsofts service. MILLIONS of people who want a free domain will find out the the one they really want is taken. Millions will go to the aftermarket to get the name they want. MILLIONS of new domain buyers , limited supply of good domains. Prices will go up for domains.

So it is a free domain even though Micosoft would have to pay the standard charges to ICANN, and its free hosting which even with huge volume is going to cost them $10 a year to provide, and there is no catch. Oh! and I believe in Santa Claus.

What extension are they offering? Can you have anything that is available for free?

Hopefully, millions will go to the aftermarket for a name

.com , .net and .org only in the beta
So you will have to spend the $7 to get rubberduck.info

The $30 a month might deter just a few

Where does the $30 a month come in? I thought all this was free!

It is a very easy way to start your first web page. The site is built on web parts which you can select and drag onto your pages. The Nintendo stock price part I used is an example of such a web part. They also have others such as weather, etc.

Not much good to a domaineer unless you can get to the code to drop in advertisements. They would make a good personal or small business page though imo.

Blogging for the IT illiterate by the sound of it! Maybe I should give it go!

They ask for the security number on your credit card not your SSN
You certainly have a charming way of pointing out mistakes Lee

heh, ok, sorry if that was too rough. With all the MS Bashing that goes on, halftruths that you see online..I assumed, wrongly.. that this was just another example of that. So again, I apologise for not waiting to see if that was the case :)

by the way, that www.9x5.org in my sig is my Office Live domain

It's good to know that someone will stand up for the weak and the poor.

Seriously, I agree that Microsoft takes quite a beating for a company that in my opinion has done a lot of good for a whole lot of people.
