I've read that the tax on gas in California is roughly $1/gallon. I see gas stations go out of business often, so it can't be that profitable. And it can't be cheap to deal with such a dangerious item, plus large credit card charges WITHOUT a signature, no way to stop repeat fraud, so you have rampant credit card fraud... doesn't sound like a good business to me!
