In lieu of the current economic state, has anyone been able to pick up any really good deals as a buyer this year?

Do you want the list in Alphabetical order?

Lord yes.

Some excellent deals and money makers.

Some right here on the forum.

And some off the forum (via PM) etc.

I figured as much, but wasn't sure if people were still buying those good deals or hanging on to their cash more as of late.

I've been buying when I said I wasn't going to because some of the prices are just too good to pass up. Even in auctions where prices usually climb far beyond board pricing has seen some great deals as of late.

Question for those who were buying after the .com crash - see any comparisons?

Good deals, not great though. People still want good money for their domains.

Personally, no.

You're talking about domains that fell 9-10 years ago.

There was not a business and circus atmosphere then as you see now.

I can not recall any auction service or drop catcher.

Admittedly, I was not that into domaining then as I am now but was still in it.

Mostly for the sake of some clients.

I think back then a reg or renewal was $49.99 per year.

As a comparison, it would be like a $200 - $300 reg or renewal today per name.

Snapnames was around in 2000 I believe...2001 at the latest...The reg fees were I think around $12-$15 if you knew where to look.

I agree that there is much, much more competition now...but when you were competing with Kevin Hamm, BuyDomains, noname, Jay Westerdal and a few others...actually getting the name may have been tougher as now all you need is money.

Kevin Ham was the only one I was aware of at that time frame - 1999, 2000, 2001 etc.

I remember this was from a piece in an entrepreneur magazine or something like that.

I moved to my present location in 1996 so my knowledge of Kevin and the domain industry started right about then.

I recall when people really, really, really wanted your business and would answer their own phones and were exceptionally helpful.

I was a big client of Network Solutions and a web hosting company that I think was called Interland.

Spent $10K last week on names that I would normally pay $14k-$16K.

So is anyone willing to discuss what is a 10k name BARGAIN at these times?

I still have no feeling for "domainers value" I just buy the names that I like :D

As some of you may know I have memory problem so I only buy short names.
The 10K was for several names and not just one single names.

Yeah snapnames was around in 2001 at least though there were no auctions. Whoever was first to backorder a domain got it.

I don't really buy any domains but I seen domains which I think is worth pretty much sell for less than the price I was thinking about.

Hard to believe. Nowadays whoever backorders a domain at Snapnames first would be lucky to get the domain at all, not to mention our friend halvarez the auction hijacker.
