The Buy serves three fold

1) YouTube has started to build a name for itself, small yes, but those who don;t follow the industry don't see it as G's
2)It's a great outlet to serve the G's ads
3) and Most IMPORTANT it knocks out what has the potential to be a competitor.

1.6 bn seems like a lot now, but G knows what it is really worth in their hands
:)

Google is not stupid and the fact that they buyed a company without revenue it doesn´t tell anything. They don´t judge everything about ´revenue´ or ´results´ NOW. They have a look to the future, they take on account the position YouTube has. The Microsoft position and so on..

BTW., someone here said that none of us had to pay regfee for this domain...that shows you that if you have a ´regfee domain´ you could make it a success from it...because it´s not always the name...its also and very important the idea, content, marketing and so on...

I wonder how Google will integrate Youtube in terms of branding and more importantly here, URL.

GooTube.com probably isn't on the list...

I saw "GooTube" on the news this morning in referene to the new YouTube/Google purchase. So to some, it very much IS on the list :)

Although... I would not enjoy being referred as a "GooTube users". YUCK!

Has some... um... ugly connotations.

Anyway, Gootube doesn't see to be owned by Google according to whois.sc and after the major news print using the word "gootube", that domain owner is about to get flooded with traffic!!!

Why should they rebrand a succesfull brandname ?

to justify the expenses for brand consultants?

because some guys would want to integrate the tubes into their organisation, just to make it clear who's the boss?

Just wild guesses, having spent some happy years as a part of the middle crust of disbelievers in corporate america, which is how top management would label the more openly cynical layer of middle managers, sometimes reluctant to implement the very visionary top-down decisions.

What is now the Googleplex, between Amphitheatre Pkwy and Shoreline Blvd in Mt. View, used to be the Silicon Graphics (sgi) Headquarters. I vividly remember some spirited discussions about branding there at the end of the nineties.

Different company - same building - same discussions... (same branding consultants...)

1.65B is for the name, the contents, the user base. Technology is the least important thing.

The userbase is the main thing, a million hits a day, 50,000 videos, agreements with warner, sony etc. over TM issues, they should have it made.

The bank that backed them for $13.5m will pick up 30% of the shares. Not a bad return.

This was a NON cash deal.

G gets all of YT stock and YT got 1.65 Billion worth of G stock

today closed at $427.44

so how many shares of google is that

=

3,860,190.90

Now what did the bank get. Shares not cash, or ?
