We researched this about a year ago, and already most of the appropriate ccTLD suffixes had been registered by a multitude of different people. It also became apparent from some market research (not involving domainers) that the idea was recieved with mixed views from those who might be expected to register such names. There is of course a market, however the market is relatively small, thus for the time, energy, and costs involved that would have to be expended on marketing the idea the returns seemed negligable.

Having said this I wish the domain owners all the best in their venture.

good luck to them. centralnic.com has been very successful, .tv was never intended to be about television but has also been very successful. Just a matter of marketing, i suppose.

if successful others will do it; any short tld should therefore become that much more valuable, which should be good for all domainers.

My question is, if anybody cares to answer, is what happens if a particular website owner, like spammer.nv.com, gets this site banned. doesn't that ban the whole domain and bring down all of nv.com? Similarly google bans domains from adsense all the time, for example for adult content. If google bans porn.nv.com, wouldn't that affect all nv.com sites.

thanks

Please understand xxx.nv.com is not a real domain, it's a 3rd level domain (subdomain).
There are pros and cons about creating such namespace e.g. to define a company structure like yahoo does with its own services (e.g. news.yahoo.com, movies.yahoo.com etc) - but when selling said namespace there is an additional layer of ownership that is handed over from the holders of xxx.cc.yy to the actual owners of cc.yy

well... they have locked down the top 500 names anyway... for the time being...
I bought land.nv.com and property.nv.com
speculative plays and I live in Nevada.... Who knows.
Its $50 for two years, btw.

I know the owner of NV.com

Stand up guy, and i wish him success in this :) :D

Thanks. I was a bit disappointed about them reserving the top 500 names... I had it all planned out to register some good ones! land and property might be okay though. Not expecting traffic, but someone might want them someday :)
also, it is $50 PER year with a min 2 years...

Because 2-character .us domains are not released by NeuStar.
Actually LL .us names exist, the state abbrevs are reserved but in use
eg. state.nv.us, state.ca.us etc
AFAIK state subdomains are limited to public entities.

To me it sounds like an odd idea but maybe they found the centralnic concept to be most profitable.

I fell for this scam once with New.Net but never again. You never own a sub-domain, you just rent it. Don't waste a dime on this con game -- go buy a real domain.

 That has to be the silliest statement I ever read in regards to domains

The problem is that NEW.NET is a joke of a domain system, this on the otherhand is not.

Hi all

well what is the value of a Tld for nv.com i mean if someone has one is it going to be of some value in future? who can tell me that ? are subdomains having any value at all? les say the real good names like Music or hotel . Can someone outside the US buy a subdomain like this ?

Mr. Deleted, are you disputing my statement that it's just a sub-domain? Every subdomain sold in this scam is dependent on the owner of the base domain. They determine how the sub-domains are sold, forwarded, etc. If for some reason the folks who own nv.com decide to go out of business, all the sub-domains vanish. These subdomains can't be moved to other registrars -- you're at the mercy of the people who own nv.com.

New.Net took this concept one step farther -- they actually sold sub-domains of sub-domains.

Why you would support these guys is beyond my comprehension.
