NP down for me...I am sure they have a backup.

not necessary deleted but I also got the DB unavailable message when trying to reach the site.

wow - he hit NP also
frontpage or not, this guy must have some skills since NP have also been taking precautions yet still got knocked off by this kid.

Clown - there has been no reports of NP being HIT they are having database issues. Until such times as an official message is posted I dont think knee jerk speculation helps anyone.

I contacted him yesterday and added him...
and today i got back to my desk and this is what i see

============

dnjournal2005: <Sent To All >
************* DB Deleted.
NEXT: DomainState.com

Until such times as an official message is posted

Is there an official message from DNJournal?

It's at least bad timing for NP to shut down for repairs. They would have to know what people would think.

if he was able to delete the db, why didn't he add that "nice" Frontpage?
they (must) have backups, so deleting the db from the server (in case he did that) is useless.

dnjournal2005:

jane: hmm

jane: thats stealing

I think the message on the front page of DNJournal Says it all.. there is no such message on NP all it is saying is database error.. There could be thousands of other reasons.. MySQL crash would seem like the obvious one

This is kinda like that story where some little chick was running about saying that the sky was falling..

your right, so i will say this - i do not know for fact they were hit. It is just a strange coincidence that there site is down after threats of being attacked. This is only my opinion.

The guy made a threat and now the site is down. Maybe that is a precautionary move on NP part, but the dillrod will get the credit anways. We have a much bigger problem than a website or two being hacked right now here in the US. It appears we are on the verge of the biggest economic catastophe in our history. We may have literally lost a major city to the ocean.

when will this end...
Hopefully sites like these check their security..

Yes NexSite I agree.. some of our friends are taking shelter after another natural disaster tears the life apart of americans.. kinda puts things into perspective..

you were right

"N***P***.com is undergoing server maintenance. We'll be back online.

-RJ- "

If he's logged into yahoo IM it shouldn't be too hard to trace his whereabouts even if he is hiding his real IP in one way or another. No matter how smart these guys think they are most of them leave breadcrumbs to follow. Not a real smart move if you ask me to take on a collective bunch of webmasters. Anyone know anybody over at Yahoo?

Funny, I got a similar message when trying to access dnforum about 1/2 hour ago. Got the same message for about 15 minutes. Maybe just internet hiccups?

He is hacking as promised. The maintenance message I believe is something from VBulletin when there is an sql error. Basically this guy most likely has hacked the database of NP. At DNJ they run different software. You can't hack 2 different sites the same way unless they run the same software.

This really sucks and I feel bad for those getting nailed. This effects us too as domainers as business is disrupted.

Could it be the infamous Iranian (?) hijacker, the one who's reportedly stolen a
couple of precious domains the past couple of months?
He wont be coming from Iran. Not so stupid to tell where he came from

I agree with aboutwhat.

It seems reasonable to assume that any identifying info he gave would be of the "red herring" type -
clues designed to mislead you.

and of course he's taken the basic precautions to keep people from getting at even his masked IP via yahoo messenger. No display picture, havent tried, but I'm sure he'd decline a VoiceChat or WebCam.

Starting last night soon after the Iran hacker announced plans to next attack NP I was unable to login to NP with them wanting usrname and paswrd, something never requested before. That login issue was going on for the past 16 hrs and was possibly due to the hacker.

Now starting a short time ago all logins fail with this message "NP....... is undergoing server maintenance. We'll be back online. -RJ-"

Very difficult to believe they would voluntarily take it down for maintanance mid-day like that, which is the prime time for web traffic. Of course, all internet maintanance should be done at 2:00 AM not 2:00 PM, so the likely cause is the DNJ hacker.
