I think it may have even accelerated slightly. In many cases when people lose their jobs they try and start something of their own during their spare time... ie a small business or a consulting business... which of course requires a domain name.

Also along the same lines, there are more people applying for jobs these days, and in an attempt to look professional people often register a domain so they can list their email address as "[email protected]" instead of "[email protected]".
