I am having my wisdom teeth removed tomorrow.

I have never been put to sleep before and admit I am kind of nervous.

Wish me luck...:asleep:

Andrew,

Chin up (pun sort of intended)... Been there done that like 25 years ago. The going under part is not really all that bad, pretty much like taking a nap - nothing to worry about... unless perhaps you get Focus' dentist.

In my case, I woke up during the proceedure and despite finding my surgeon with his knee on my chest pulling for all his worth at my tooth, that did not concern me, as I was paying attention to the well endowed assistant in his employ. She noticed me noticing her and in moments I was out again.

Just follow all the instructions you are given as regards care... From everything I've heard about dry sockets, you don't want that to happen. It will also help if you have a driver to take you home and someone at home to keep track of you and your pain pills - day 1 and day 2, I'm sorry to say, you will need those.

As things go, it is not as bad as all that, so just hang in there and in about a week or so you should be feeling quite okay.

Your lucky the Dentist is putting you to sleep, I had 2 of mine pulled without anesthesia, it was horrible. The best advice I can give you is to make sure you finish the bottle of antibiotics, not doing so could lead to infection.... You'll be OK, Good luck!

Take the least amount of narcotic pain pills possible...the acetamenophen in them is really really toxic for your body and puts you under a huge amount of liver distress, esp. if it is processing & metabolizing strong antibiotics at the same time. I suggest asking your doctor for pain medicine without any acetamenophen in it, tell him you are sensitive to it....and take the least possible amount of opiates anyways, they are extremely addictive, they lower your natural pain threshhold & can seriously ruin your life dude...so make sure you don't start down that path as these kinds of procedures are usually how it begins...and if that is the case I will personally kick your a$s. Remember, stick to the weed man! :eek:k:

You will be ok, I promise bro.

...and make sure to check your butt afterwards...

Many years ago, back when I was 18, I was hit by a van pretty hard and I got messed up. I broke two ribs, which one of them punctured my lung, I tore off some stuff in my shoulder, got a huge cut in the skull and crushed my liver. I was at the hospital for 14 days, constantly getting morphine for the pain and I tell you, you could stick a pole through my shoulder and I wouldn't even grin.

So, ask your doctor to give you morphine instead and you'll do fine without anesthesia. :)

BTW, I have a picture of me in the hospital bed flashing gangsigns with tubes coming out of my nose. I will see if I can find it, so I can upload it here.

I had one pulled with going to sleep and one without. To be honest it was the same, except when i did go to sleep it took me about 3 weeks to recover and when i didn't it only took one. see when you are asleep the surgeon might not be as careful because you cant let him/her know that its too rough.

good luck to you and enjoy the vicodin :)

You might want to get anti-biotics Before they're pulled too. It may avoid a very worst case scenario.

Good luck - being put under isn't the bad part - it's the recovery. Expect to be sick for the rest of the day (if you get it) and have a sore mouth for a few days.

The good part - you don't have to defend eating ice cream. :)

Hey guys and girls. First off I really appreciate your posts. I read this thread 5 minutes before I went to get it done and it really helped me out. It wasn't so much that I was scared I just wanted to know what to expect.

All is done and overwith now and everything went great. The last thing I heard the nurse say was this is going to make you feel different. 5 seconds later I was out and don't even remember falling asleep. The recovery shouldn't be all too bad, except for the fact I can't smoke cigarettes. But I plan to use this time to quit. So far it's been almost 24 hours.

But again, really... I appreciate every comment that was made in this thread.

Chantix - excellent stuff if you really want to quit smoking, worth the money.

It wasnt nearly as bad as I anticipated everything to be. I have a pretty high pain tollerance, but was expecting the pain to be a lot more servere.

Everything has gone well, and to anyone that will be getting theirs out, I can honestly say that I would do it over again and not worry one bit.

My butt also went untouched which I thanked god over and over again for protecting me... lol

Thanks again to everyone for your support. It helped ease my mind quite a bit.
