OK... I retired as moderator but I can't keep quiet about this section. Something else needs to happen - because this is not working. The lack of people participating shows that. Here are the problems.....

1) As I sat here tonight starting to post threads for individual members - it occurred to me that I could fill up this entire section of the damn forum - and that seems a little silly. After hundreds of transactions here (bought & sold combined) I have not had a single bad deal with anybody. However I feel weird starting an individual thread for every single person that I've done business with. Plus I can't remember everybody right this second. So no matter what - I will probably forget somebody - and that might hurt their feelings. There are plenty of other people who have a similar situation - and are finding it awkward to start threads or post comments for every transaction they have made.

2) Starting this section after the forum is already well established is making everybody a little uncomfortable. That's why there are not many people posting in this part of the forum. It makes for an awkward situation. Do we go back to the beginning? Is it retroactive? What if you can't remember? Etc.?

3) Some people just don't want to post in public regardless of how their deal went - and we should respect that. There needs to be a better way to let everybody give their feedback - without making them start a public thread about it.

4) If we are going to do something like this - we just need to have a 'positive' or 'negative' rating that shows up next to a user's name. Having a whole section - and threads like this is not working. There are just too many variables. We have been buying/selling names from each other for a year before this section even got started - and yet hardly anybody is using it. That should tell us something!

So....I say we get rid of this section - and just find a way to implement a rating where people can go and give you a 'positive' or 'negative' vote - and then have it become part of your profile description - or even show up next to your name. This section is too awkward and 'newbie' for the level of transactions that have already occurred (and continue to occur).

I feel pretty confident that most people agree - given the lack of response to this section despite the large number of sales that keep taking place. Not to mention the people that sent me messages that said they thought this was not the way to handle it. Of course now that I'm retired - I'm just a regular civilian and have no power to change anything anymore. So all I can do is suggest that we need to come up with a better way. A more simple & clean way. :)

I guess I'm the odd man out, but I like the new forum additions.

Humor - the lounge is full of humor stuff, why not bump it over to it's own forum? dnforum is more than just domain talk, we are a community. every community needs a source of entertainment

Newbies - Why not have a place where newbies aren't afraid of posting dumb sounding questions?

Adult - Adult domains are are distinctive niche in the domain industry. Many domainers specialise in adult domains while others won't touch them. I think it's right to keep them separate.

User-to-user praise - A good idea, and I don't see much problem with the way its setup now, but I agree it could be handled better. vBulletin has a hack that allows users to leave comments on a user that are viewable by clicking a link in the user's profile. It's better than way then having posts in a separate forum.

I believe popper is trying to make a statement in that user to user section. Too many people make too many deals every day and there is no need to have a praise section. We do on the other hand need a fraud thread. It would be much smaller and a lot more informative.
