Each auction will run 72 hours from posting.
The exact name of the domain will be posted in the title
The minimum acceptable bid (opening bid) is also posted in the title

Seller determines opening bid.
Seller can NOT CHANGE that opening bid amount once the auction is posted.
In other words, if you set opening bid too high, too bad.

From the moment the name it is posted, the auction begins and ends in 72 hours
If no bids, then no sale

However, the bidder may want to try to “Snipe” this auction in the last moments. Therefore, don’t be discouraged if there are no bids.
By posting in the auction subsection, the seller agrees to sell the domain at the opening bid if that is there are no other bids.

All bids posted are binding
  • The bidder cannot change or retract their bid
  • The bidder cannot add stipulations to the bid (ie, good for 24 hours).
  • The Auctions run and end at the 72 hour mark
  • Bidders agree to monitor their funds upon entering a bid as they have now entered into a binding agreement x 72 hours.

Once a bid is posted by a member, other members may bid higher amounts in MINIMAL increments:

$0.00 -$499.00 = $5.00 increments
$500.00 - $999.00 = $10.00 increments
$1000.00 -$2499.00 = $25.00 increments
$2500.00 - $4999 = $50.00 increments
$5000.00+ = $100.00 increments

In order to prevent the seller from changing the opening amount and to prevent the bidder changing their bid, this forum will be set up similar to legal postings – you cannot edit your comments previously posted.

Some restrictions:
The domain cannot be posted on auction at another website and under no active sales or negotiations.
The name cannot be listed for sale, for appraisal, or offers wanted subsections of DNF.
The name MUST BE OWNED by the member (seller) posting the auction
Only one domain listed at auction per member in a 24 hour period.

Payment is due within 48 hours
Seller may chose payment method
Transfer of ownership should take place within 24 hours of payment

It would be a damn shame if this initiative died a death.

An auction format will do little to nothing to improve sales, not as long as the names are not worth buying.

$5 a domain submission fee should weed out the real crap from being submitted in first place
also as little time consuming helps towards dnf hosting fees etc
as long as people who really know their domains are reviewing
ie, Adam, Johnn etc

The main factor would be on the seller to present a decent name at a decent price to get the bidding started. Beyond that, if it is crap or terribly overpriced it will not sell.

The point to this format is to essentially end the perpetual, never ending auctions, sales, and "looking for more" threads that are years old.

Price it to sell and to move, get bids going, and everyone knows that it is a no reserve auction and the auction ends in 72 hours.

Not sure how to make things any simpler than that. It is a stripped down, "unplugged" version of all the noise out there (and in here).

Name. No reserve. Minimum bid. 72 hours. Sale or no sale.

Easy.

Really.... which "two" really decent names would you price to sell in this auction?

I'm down with any good suggestion, but action speaks louder than wiz-zerds

I disagree as many domainers (mostly noobs) see real value in the names they submit, If domainers are willing to dish out a $100 reg fee for crap.xxx, what makes you think they wont dish out $5 to try and sell it?

And for those who know crap from quality, why would they pay money to sell them? I know I wouldn't, Names sell themselves and if they haven't sold in the sales sections or in your signature, their likely NOT going to sell at auction.

I have several in mind. Let's get the new subforum open and let's do it.

BUT!...still waiting on the BIG NEWS from Adam.

Has anyone been privy to this info yet?

Domainers/Resellers are known to want something for just about nothing, (stingy is more like it) so when the OP suggests we submit "Decent" domains and price them to "sell and move" with a NO reserve auction, what he's actually suggesting is; "Sell your "decent" domains for cheap" (minus $5)

Back to Biggedons question that was not answered, what is "Decent"?

I'll tell you what it is NOT, "Decent" is NOT quality because sellers are simply NOT willing to risk losing their quality domains for pennies on the dollar in a reseller marketplace.

How many sub forums are we going to create to sell domains that nobody wants to buy?

The purpose of DNCollege was so domainers can educate themselves, and by doing so we wouldn't have so much crap for sale and we'd actually see some good sales here.

What the OP is suggesting is precisely what is posted and stated, certainly not what your concept is.

Actually, let's go ahead and turn this thread over to Precious so she we can make her the moderator and "Determinator" of what a good auction is and what a decent name is.

She has often complained that there is not enough leadership and representation of women on the forum.

So, let's say we make this thread about her since she now want's to try and control the flow of the thread and take it to a new lower level of meaning significance.

And, since she has a notion of how it should be done and handled, we can all PM Adam and tell him not to stress, worry, or waste his time on a different format since she has all the answers and solution.

Bravo.

How clearer can it be.

What actions are you looking for?

Let's use your iSpoof as an example.

This is only an example: The MINIMUM you would consider selling this for is somewhere between 5K and 7.5K. (it is a damn good name, btw)

You decide to list it at a $6K price starting.

The clock begins.

72 hours. None of this crap of Offer good for 10 hours. The format has strict guidelines and people need to abide by them.

16 hours left in the auction and still no bids.

3 hours left in the auction and someone puts in a bid of $6K.

remember, bids are binding, no going back and deleting or editing (ala the legal section posts). And the person who submitted the bid has the comfort of knowing that they are not going to get beat at the last minute with a $6001.00 entry. Minimum increment is $100 bucks.

Wouldn't you know it, no one else bid so you got your 6K and the buyer believes he got a great name at that price.

The bottom line is you got the minimum accepted. Or no one bid and you still own a domain that YOU think is worth at least what you posted.

And if people are concerned about all the other auctions, then kill the one buck auctions. Use a broom and sweep up the mess and take the trash out.

And I am STILL WAITING to see what Adam has in the works.

The auctions have to have some structure to them to make them work smoothly. And a minimum increment along with a time stamp is one way of upping the format.

6K for what?

Let's be realistic, how often does the forum have $6K sales? That would be for a name beyond just "Decent", Fact is we rarely see $6K quality and when we do it's usually sold via PM rather quickly.

One of the problems is most domainers think their domains are worth thousands but in reality their not.

Let's play a scenario and use the domain in the OP's sig; isongs.org

What would the OP set the price at? It needs to be "Priced to sell" with NO reserve so let's say $50

The clock begins.

72 hours. No offers

16 hours left in the auction and still no bids.

3 hours left in the auction and someone puts a bid of $60.

1 hour left in the auction and someone puts a bid of $70

1 minute left $80

1 sec. left $90

Auction ends at $90, Is the OP happy with his $90 sale price minus $5? most likely not.

So let's do it again only this time we'll increase the starting price to $500

The clock begins.

72 hours. No offers

16 hours left in the auction and still no bids.

3 hours left in the auction and still no bids.

1 hour left and still no bids.

Auction ends and no bids.

The OP is free to enter his own scenario for the domain, I just don't see a reseller paying anything near $500 for a "I" anything dot org.

Wow, post number 35 is beyond reproach. What tremendous insight. The ability to take a hypothetical scenario, alter it, and make another hypothetical scenario out of the original scenario is just mind boggling. Such creative genius should not be held back. In fact, it was done twice in the same post. Just damned glad I was here to witness this.

Um, did anyone mention selling a letter "i" dot org? Hmm...I need to go back and see who came up with that scenario.

I thought I saw iSpoof dot com in someone's siggy and was using that as an example.

I think what Gerry is proposing is a cinch, and I would couple it with a $5 entry fee as Pred suggested. That'll weed out 90% of noise. It's really a no-brainer to me and I can't understand why such trivial 'objections' are raised. I'm ready to use such a system right now. Some of the old hands here might remember the mod-operated auctions in chat, which was very successful. That initiative fell by the wayside - another bloody shame.

Let's be clear Dale, my objections are with the Format and NOT so much with the auction itself.

The proposed format is; Low start price - NO Reserve

Under this Format your almost guaranteed to have pigeon shit for domains.. Nobody in their right mind is going to submit quality domains on those terms, especially on a domain forum.

And as much as I respect you and your opinions Dale, your dead wrong if you think $5 is going to weed out the crap, As long as domainers believe their crap has real value, (which most of them do) they'll gladly pay the $5 and more if necessary.
