As a former TV sportscaster I was very happy to stumble upon what I consider to be an exceptional expired name this afternoon:
PregameShow.com

After grabbing it I immediately checked to see if PostgameShow.com was available. It was not - the .com .net and .org are all registered by the biggest broadcast company in America.

Also found that this same company has PregameShow.net and .org so there is no doubt they are the ones who somehow let PregameShow.com expire. They now have a major hole in their portfolio. The amazing thing is, this expired back in April and was still sitting there when I happened upon it today.

The network pregame shows are massively popular as all football fans know and a web site with pregame features, forums etc would also be a monster if done by a company with the necessary capital. Also think of the subdomain possibilities:
football.pregameshow.com, basketball.pregameshow.com etc. or
raiders.pregameshow.com if you want to go to the team level.

I would really like input from all of you about how you would value this domain and go about marketing it. I worked in TV for 20 years with two major network affiliates and I think I should approach all of the networks with this name (as well as the company that originally had it and would undoubtedly like to have it back).

If I do not get a reasonable offer for it I am seriously considering developing it myself. I went looking for some companion names to use for postgame sites and picked up GameReports.com which also was not registered (who says you can't find any good .com names anymore) and PostgameForum.com. With those I can pretty well cover the whole football (or other sport) weekend - or sell the whole package to a network or media entity that could do it better than me.

I am fairly new in the domain business but I think this one might be a real contender. I really would value any input from the many more experienced users here. If I sell it should it go to someone like GreatDomains or should I just handle it myself. Ebay is usually the home of the lowball bidder, but if properly advertised perhaps they would work for this kind of name. Help!

You did good.
You should get the site up and running asap.

WIth the site running I'd wait for that right offer to come your way.

I great domain. Worth a lot in my opinion. Please post regarding its traffic once you've set it up. That would be very interesting to know. Good job Duke and good luck!!

I really got off on a football kick today after finding PregameShow.com. I later added PregameReport.com and PostgameReview.com. I like the ideas I mentioned in starting this thread so well I decided to find another name I could use for the same ideas in case I do sell PregameShow.com.

PostgameReview.com probably works better than GameReports.com as a companion name to PregameShow.com (or PregameReport). It will also work better with PostgameForum.com.

Of course those names are all just minor side dishes. More than likely, a broadcast entity would only want PregameShow.com.

Thanks for your comments. I hope to hear from many other DNForum members whose opinions I respect (even if you think the name sucks!)

as a previous sportscaster I would develop it...much more valuable down the road in a year or 2 ..

Very nice just as they are but with your background you should be able to develop a real nice following...

Why dont you do "live" sportscasts..web cast reports ..seems to be a natural fit...you just need a decent camera...a REAL pregameshow ! take the gambling approach and you can personally cash in..the latest field conditions, injuries etc... and of course a way to place your bets ..

As always you have some good ideas bidawinner - however I believe the online sports betting angle is illegal in the U.S. It would be nice if it weren't. I have even been known to particpate in an office pool or two (but never for real money of course!).:)

Thanks QQ. I really think a company with deep resources should develop this name since so much could be done with it, so I think I will try to market it. When I start approaching the broadcast companies what would most of you estimate a fair price range to shoot for on this name would be?

Well not having the foggiest idea about the term I would say that you have justified it very well and it seems to be a very good catch.

Congrats

Duke, the more I think about it, and say it..... the better it gets!

After every Cowboy game, what do I watch? The "PostGameShow", after every Maverick game I watch the "PostGameShow", after every Stars game I watch the "PostGameShow". That's what they call it, that's what it is. It's the same in every city in the country.

I wish I had some extra money. I would invest a few bucks with you to develop the damn thing. :)

Value? ..... Let me think about it for a while. Translation- Let somebody else go first so I don't look stupid. :)

Yes sir I am. The Mavericks had a great year. The Cowboys are rebuilding but the one great thing this year will be getting to see Emmitt break the All-Time Rushing Record. He already has the Most Rushing TD's, Most 1000 Yard Seasons, etc.

I will pay whatever the ticket scalpers are asking to get a ticket to the game that he goes for the record. It will be a special moment for the entire NFL, not just Dallas.

"PUSSY RED" - What is that Joe, some new NFL defensive scheme or maybe Steve Spurrier's new Redskins offense?

The Pregame Show is an American institution. Every Sunday during football season all of the national TV networks that carry football have star-studded pregame shows to hype that day's games. I think you had mentioned earlier that you are in China so I can understand how this would not translate. Is Pussy Red the female division of the Red Army?

What I mean is the two domains have the same typein value from goto search result.

That is a FACT so far, until you make it change by develop the site to getting SE traffic or world of mouth.

It is painful to learn, read more from here you will learn faster.

Wish you the best.

Alexa web search results for pregame show: 25,700

More importantly it is a term that is burned into the consiousness of American sports fans. It is ALREADY branded through constant exposure from every major national network and hundreds of local broadcast stations. I know you mean well Joe but you remain far off base.

One other point Joe. In picking names, you seem to be relying ENTIRELY on a search tool. Things like Overture are just a TOOL, they are not a magic wizard that spits out profitable domain names. It is far more important that you have a complete understanding of the language and obvious factors that make a name valuable first.

In Overture pregame gets 84 searches in June. Pregame meal gets 42 and pregame show gets none. (I'm pretty sure no one here would take pregamemeal.com over pregameshow.com!)
So you think none means the name must be no good.

No, it mostly means the results were from June - outside of football season when no pregame shows are on the air. There would be absolutely no reason for people to search for pregame show in June. Yet there are over 25,000 hits on Alexa for web sites with pregame show subject matter.

Every sports fan and just about every American knows what the football pregame show is all about. Millions watch them every weekend. But this is not part of the Chinese culture so you didn't know that. For the same reason you registered what-woman-want.com when (even though those terms show up in Overture) the name makes no sense in English because the correct term would be what-women-want.

Others have said it before but it can't be over-emphasized enough. Stick with what you know best. You say you have spent over $36,000 registering over 700 names without making any money. Most people would take that as a clue that they are doing something wrong.

I believe you said you are Chinese. If you are I would use that intimate knowledge of China and register names related to that market that those of us in America are clueless about. Just about everyone agrees that China will one day be a massive consumer market. If you had 700 China-related names they still might not be worth a lot today but there is a pretty good chance well-chosen China-related names will be worth a ton of money 5-10 years from now.

As it is, the 700 names you have have little value today and will have little or no value 5-10 years from now. So, I would make that your rule #1 - register what you know! Quit guessing at English names unless you thoroughly understand them - and DON'T rely on any single tool to tell you are making a good choice.

Good luck to you - I certainly admire your persistence!
