How big of an impediment is owning only the singular spelling of a domain name?

Let's say you own the singular spelling of a domain but you don't own the plural spelling. It's a great 1-2 generic name. The owner of the plural has his domain parked but doesn't want to sell it to you.

Would you still be keen on developing your domain into a full-blown developed web site? Or would you create a mini-site instead?

I'm in this exact situation. I'm trying to decide whether to develop the site into a large web site or just create a mini-site and save my money/time. If I might be able to acquire the plural name in the future I could then develop it into an elaborate site.

I'm interested to hear your thoughts on this.

It all depends on the name. Sometimes the plural is better than the singular, sometimes it's the other way round or both are okay.
If you have an adequate domain and the other party won't sell, move forward with your plans.

I wouldn't refer to mini sites as domain development. It's just a replacement for domain parking. Development to me refers to developing your domain into a full-blown web site. The more effort you put into development, the more chance you will have that it will be successful. And who really cares if you can't get the plural version of the keyword. You still have a nice generic keyword which would be worthwhile developing, which will surely increase the value of your domain. I assume the singular version still gets a nice amount of searches?

agree with this.If you're looking for a quick flip though, I suggest not to develop into full blown website.minisite is good throw some adsense on there and get the site noticed on search engines. but for more value definitely full blown website.

My question is, what constitutes a full blown website? 20+ pages or more???
