John why didn't you mention this site http://www.shootbush.com/ ?

Because I was commenting on a domain name that came up in a search I was conducting on an entirely different subject, and wasn't looking to collect or post some sort of comprehensive list of domains nor, really, did I think there was some sort of "debate" about this sort of thing, really.

I didn't realize there was some sort of "equal time" rule for political violence. I gather that advocating violence against the president is okay, so long as someone else advocated violence against a previous president.

Of course, because of the way domain parking systems work, nothing politically relevant comes up from that domain name.

you guys would be airing on the side of the registrant

I think that was predictable, it was bound to happen, perhaps came out during the campaign trail when the clown yelled it out at a Palin rally.

What was also predictable were some of the comments here by our local circus clowns.

Next up...Our Rodeo Clowns.

I get knocked down but I get up again...

Hmmm....while I find the domain reprehensible I'm not sure we need to regulate what people can register/say, it becomes a very slippery slope.

That very slippery slope is sometimes a very slippery crutch that people have been leaning on for any number of reasons.

I truly believe in free speech and freedoms, but the issue here is a matter of a registrars TOS and those violations.

The point is; If you came up in the search with "shootbush.com", we wouldn't have this thread now would we?

No, but equal disdain for the domain name registrant would be nice.

"registrants"

No edit button. :)

Once more with feeling:

(A) The name came up in a search for something entirely unrelated to politics.

(B) I didn't express any "disdain" for the domain registrant. People are going to register any imaginable string, and Verizon will monetize it even if unregistered. My commentary was on GoDaddy monetizing it(1). I have no doubt some third-tier parking company would, but GoDaddy has high visibility. Jim-Bob's Domain Park doesn't run Super Bowl ads.

(C) It's not a political comment one way or the other.

(1) Hence the comment - I wonder how much they make from this. The name is one of those parked "free, courtesy of GoDaddy". The domain registrant doesn't get a penny from those. For all we know, the domain registrant him or herself registered the name to prevent someone else from registering it, and doesn't realize that GoDaddy parks names by default. So, I have no idea what motivated the registrant.

The point is; If you came up in the search with "shootbush.com", we wouldn't have this thread now would we?

Frankly, if it had been in the list I was glancing through, I would have probably thought it was a porn domain.
