Bansche,
It doesn't matter what industry it is, the big company alway say that the small competitor will go out of business soon.
Enom has a large amount of resellers who are creating cash flow for them. Plus, the new club creates pure profit for them.
Actually, I thought our intelligence was pretty good at the time. They were out of money and on the verge, but in Q1-'02, they got a sudden surge of registrations and we couldn't figure out from where. They just started flooding in from outer space. We thought they signed some big speculator or something.
Good point about the club. That's probably gone a long way towards saving their necks.
You're right, senior management was always talkin' sh!t about all the little guys going under, but down in analytics we were always very frank and tried not to kid ourselves. I for example, used to preach that GoDaddy would surpass NSI in registrations by Q4-'04 and we should buy them before it was too late. Also TuCows was a favorite of the analytics group because they seemed to have the reseller market locked up while we couldn't make any headway at all! My biggest fear used to be that Yahoo would buy GoDaddy and put NSI out of business before I could cash out my options.
Anyway, how the heck to you back-order a name from eNom? I don't see anyplace on the site to do so.
