If you buy at the after market, there is little chance to resell at the forums and make a killer return. If you buy via resellers, there is little chance to profit high by selling it back to them.

Your best bet is to be very certain, who your end user buyer will be for your investment.

My advice would be to take your time to invest your money. Don't be in a hurry to spend it. Research every domain that presents to you and try to find out info like traffic and possible end users. I'd avoid typos and trademark related domains. Any other area is fine. If you intend to develop the names, try to find domains in sectors where you have a personal interest or knowledge. Good luck!

I have been watching them they were at all time low in late 2008 some technology stocks the sector I am most fimilar with is raising really fast and plus I like domains because it is the represents the best of mulrtiple worlds meaning like it has a realestate model, it has ppc like stock yields and can be turned into a business. Well stocks you only have thier growth and divdends meaning they are for investors to make any good money you need a lot or a little that turn to a lot over the years.

My point is, you have to STUDY all investment strategies.

You will find much advice on what kind of domain(s) to buy. That does NOT mean it is a guarantee to success. I know many people who have sold domains and purchased stock. Not that they are abandoning their domain investments. But there was an opportunity for long term (and short term) incredible ROI.

Irregardless, 5k spent today in stocks/domains may be 25K in 6 months to a year. Or it may be 2.5K in 6 months to a year.

I would hunt around the forums for good deals right now, in .com or .ca (or whatever your own country code extension is, I think .us is due for a pickup)

Yah I bought domains that were worthless to some people and were xxxx for others but I am not looking for an equity based investment. Like I am looking into a domain I could develope build into a site with strong serps that presents a good business model I dont to make 25 k over 6 months I rather make $200 $500 $1200 $2500 $3500 income onging the guys who do make a lot of money in the stock market are hedge fund manage, the top 1% day traders and all other acount managers and people who have a lot of capital. I am not saying I am not going to invest in stocks now it is just not my focus for this check. I f i make residual or extra income I will invest it etfs or stocks and little realestate . I am looking to build income right now and invest my profits .
I like .ca domains but I am american I wish I could get my hands on good generic and .us I see they are growing in popularity quick but only in generic terms.

went back and read your full post, I would go with Geo+realestate or Geo+homes in .com. Geo+hotels would be my second choice. People are always looking to buy or sell real estate, and people are always looking for hotels. With the amount you have you might be able to find a decent size city available in these terms. The other thing is these type of domains would do well in search engines if you build a site, and I think real estate and hotel type sites are easy to do, they are more like information directories and the information doesn't change much over time.

First, don't expect to make tens of thousands overnight unless you are either extremely lucky or invest hundreds of thousands initially. :)

My advice would be to take your time to invest your money. Don't be in a hurry to spend it. Research every domain that presents to you and try to find out info like traffic and possible end users. Good suggestions. I'd also like to add quality over quantity. Sure, you can make the "newbie mistake" and hand register 1,000 domains but chances are you'll end up with 1,000 <reg fee names. Get a couple of good names (2-3) and develop them - even hire someone if you need to (don't forget to factor in development and hosting fees into your budget).

Also, don't think of what's popular NOW, think of what will be popular. Right now everyone has the economy (and related - jobs, money, debt, credit, etc..) on their mind but who knows how long that will last.

Stocks are at an all time low for many industries.

Very true - I just picked up 50+ shares of Ford stock (IMO the most stable of American car companies) for about $5.50 a share. I may toss some more money to them later on, too.

Right now silver is an OK buy, too.

when you say "investment", when do you expect to get this ROI?

this should be the guiding which domains to go after.

if you want to make returns in 6 months or less, then buy liquid domains

those can be type-in traffic, typos, or LLL/NNN

with 6k or less you could find one LLL.com and turn it quickly for small profit...maybe

or buy some traffic domains and build a revenue stream, realizing profits slowly.

or backorder some choice domains and perhaps win a few.

these are the ones, besides LLL/NNN that others will be contacting you about and sending you offers and inquiries to purchase.

if you ever get to that point, then you'll be in the control spot, but only when you have the patience and funds to hold for best roi.

i advise doing a mix of some of the above.

build a rev stream

place some backorders

buy some liquid domains

there are also some good keyword domains still unregistered.

imo...

Try sedo advanced search, select any category, extension and price $1,000 - $10,000

Some one word .coms are cheap. Something like craziness.com, not an expensive domain but the developed games site is worth 6 figures.

With 5k to spend...I would do one of the following:

1. I would buy 3-5 "pre-release" names on name jet. I would set the budget for each and do a lot of research as to which ones are bargains in the 1-1.5k range....there are a lot of them right now IMO.

2. Buy the best LLL.com I could....look to sedo, afternic, or maybe even this forum (I would ask for LLL.com's that have not been solicited for sale on the forum though).

3. I would target a nice strait up geo (actual city or town .com) maybe from a location near you that you are very familiar with....you obviously cannot not get a huge one, but targetting something in the 10-30k population may be doable.

Onward the sounds pretty interesting so would a city/state.com like southbeachflorida.com for example do you think this would be any worth investing or 100k plus pop .nets geos. And do you think .net geos get a good amount of traffic
