Well, not for me it can't... I use Mozilla for Web browsing and Pegasus Mail for e-mail, and I'm pretty certain that these programs don't make any attempt to launch the proprietary Microsoftisms noted in the article.

Security flaws are just a ploy to let microsoft have access to your system. Don't upgrade unless it's to linux :-D
