Important: Tiered Pricing Battle Again At ICANN

I dont want to pay more then what I'm paying now.
Form the OP.. claim that a .com could go up to a million per year, even if the domain does not earn that much per year.

Maybe I should of called "tax" something like a royalty fee and said 1% :undecided:

We already pay ICANN a fee on every domain purchase. We dont need an extra tax, we actually should be getting a refund.

ICANN is supposed to be a not for profit corporation. I've always been interested in how this works exactly?

That only means that the corporation isn't there to make a profit. It means nothing about the salaries for those who work there.

Can't believe they would not want this incredibly important stuff posted in the news section.

It seems News is now more about Auctions, as IMO, DNForum is no longer 'The Place to Talk Domains', or the community it was - but just a business to make money off of while taking advantage of those who come here.

Unfortunately, Making money is now more important to DNF, imo, than building a community. I would include an Example, but Admin keeping deleting my Threads, as they don't want people to know their practices. (If anyone wants an Example, they can PM me anytime.) It was the excesses of capitalism that burst the global Greed Bubble - I hope DNF reconsiders their approach and doesn't continue to follow the same path, and ruin DNF just for a dollar.

IMO, if DNF was proud of their services, being transparent wouldn't be an issue - instead of trying to mask their actions and with-holding the truth from the members here - the members who built and made DNF what it is.

...and to the subject at hand - in the good ol' days of DNF - this Thread would be front and center to DNFs members - but now, it's all about DNF making money. I guess this Subject doesn't make DNF any money.

George thanks for being on top of the matter. I recently sent my comment in. I think there is a apathetic nature to situations like this. Every domainer who activity makes a living or perceives that they will should help George in his effort to monitor ICANN and its policies. Its always fun to talk about what the next big thing is or how much you sold something for. But before you get too involved in holiday activities, spend 30 mins and make a contribution to the comments. Here are my comment which should post to ICANN soon. If you make a comment, i think it would be nice to copy it here to help others with theirs comments...

Here is my response:
  I want to comment on the language related to price controls on new or existing tlds. Any extension created with the ability to sell to the public requires regulated price controls to maintain a stable environment for domain names and all its related commerce.

The protection that price controls provides is two-fold. One is that it protects the general domain name registrant against fraudulent pricing strategies that a registry and its registrars may try to employ. It also protects the actual registry and it registrars from themselves. Effectively allowing free reign may create addition situations where an extension destroys it marketability through tiered pricing schemes.

If Pandora’s Box is opened to tiered pricing or no price caps, abuse is most likely to happen and when it does, a litigious environment will ensue against the registries and probably ICANN itself. Tiered pricing relegated to a country code is different than with extensions with business on it with years of commercial activity vested within it.

If new gtlds are to exist then at least administer them responsibly and to effect of why your organization is in existence.

Neustar is on record now as desiring removing of price caps on .biz names, if other new gTLDs get it. See their comments in the PDF of:

Well, if they could charge more for sex.biz, porn.biz, hotels.biz, games.biz, etc., they could make more money, albeit with a much smaller registration base, just like .tv.

While they may or may note kill themselves, they would definitely kill anyone currently owning a "premium" .biz domain, assuming they would charge them higher renewals.

("premium" in quotes, given I personally think .biz is junk, and I own not a single .biz domain name)
