Do you feel .info will open up a can of whupass on .com in the next year or so? If so, why?

Dot info

is only any good for an information site, nothing else.

It will have no impact at all on dot Com.

Ever.

That is not a good reason. Lol.

All sites are information sites. From porn sites to eshopping centers, we are essentially gathering information which will we use to make a decision regarding a purchase. I will take your answer as a definitely will whip.

Thanks.

LoL.

You need 400 forum dollars and then you can change your title to say whatever you want.

Just kidding with the info thing. I'm sure your opinion is the overwhelmingly popular one. I had to set the poll up in a way to level the playing field.

Your poll is wack.
There is no straight up, "NO" on your list.

Maybe a mod can add a no choice. I cant edit the poll. I guess its only fair to add a no choice.

Ahh. I'm surprised to see so many apparently liking .info to whoop that .com butt (lol).

Seriously, i would of thought most of the responses would be a no and there's not one "no" yet.

Pretty surprising.

Guest
I wonder who could have just voted "no" :)

There is no motivation for change.

With the nucleus of big influential companies using .com, without a significant reason for change it won't occur just because .info looks nice.

Yeah the no must have been mole (lol).

Well, info is for the people! And your pretty corporations better get in line with it if they want customers. For the student, mother daughter, doctor, researcher and intelligent shopper, there is only information and info could the extensnion that says it best for them.

For the people shall speak and woeth those whose ear lie covered. For the deaf shall only see their folly.

Guest
but tee, they *already* have customers and the "student, mother daughter, doctor, researcher and intelligent shopper" is *already* using .com.

Where's the motivation for either to change that?

I agree - .info is no competition to .com - even have to type one more letter uugg.. and i think it looks ugly - even biz looks better.

Hey safesys, no voting no 3 times as a moderator! (lol)

j/k

Now thats a decent criticsm - the extra character of the info and all the straight lines. In that sense, .com and .web (if it existed) are better. They are nice and round and short. (I guess by this logic, .us is really gonna kill)

The problem is what the four charactered staightline extension represents. And that is information on the information superhighway. That is just to relevant to dismiss.

Is the interent being used to its potential? Could a .info encourage more site building and visiting with its logic implication that there is information on that site? On the information medium to end all information mediums?

Granted this is not the case yet. But dont be shocked in the near future if they say to you, yeah the .com is nice but show me the info!

To be as succinct as possible, could .info come in there and just take it from .com? Stealing its typinnage like a mean old street thug? Introducing itself as part of the next experiment in internet? One that is not about mindless idiotic business models (.com to me is a free computer if you watch the ads on it lol) but about the internet getting organized and user friendly?

Will the popularity of this word and the concept work it's magic on the medium that is exactly about what it is about?
These are terrifying questions I'm sure for many here. And as evidenced by my poll which is still severely pro .info, I think some have concluded that it may indeed have a chance.

I mean, we dont need .info beaten into our heads like .com was. We already know info. We just have to discover that its on the internet, the information superhighway.

One last thing. You ask, what the motivation is. The motivation is to use a more effective and meaningful extension to get the message out. If .info starts stomping on .com, it might be a good idea to use it too so you can join the stomping instead of getting stomped in terms of not getting as much traffic and response for your business. It .info works like i think it will, you will want it.

Why?

Because generally, if we wish to be as successful as possible, we must use the most successful means to assure our success.

This is all just speculation of course

But we shall see in the near future. We have no choice.

Still can't see any motivation tee, as people are already successful with .com and the end users are already happy and familiar with using it.

There needs to be a real reason why people will leave .com - failed businesses isn't enough and.info doesn't have anything unique other than it being "nice". As mole said before, even a 98 year old granny knows what .com is - thats a hell of a lot of end user acceptance and awareness to overcome.

I'm not being deliberately blinkered or anything here, I'm genuinely open to a reasoned argument as to why .info or .biz or .whatever might overtake .com.

With regard to the poll, you do have to remember that this is mainly a speculators forum and many speculators will have speculated that .info will come good. As someone much wiser than me once put it - people seem to be desperate for a second coming.

Nothing wrong with wishful thinking, but it won't happen purely based on the wishes of speculators.

Well, I would imagine that most here are primarily .com speculators and this is why I'm surprised there are not more no's because great .info success threatens that.

A lot of my arguing is speculation but not all of it. Don't you admit a .info has an unusual relevance for the internet?

Anyways, I bet it will be used giving it value. I see it everyday in the subways and in my mind, the thing is solid internet, branded in my head on the third view.

We'll see.

Good luck to all with their speculations!

I voted No because of the question asked.
Rephrase to "Will .info prove to be a viable name to use for
web addresses"
The answer without question to me is "Definitely"
Any tld vs. .com contest really doesn't make much of a match.
Comparing registrations of .info or other new extension to .com however is a good way to gauge initial percieved value of an overall extension.

One could however make a very good match comparing individual .com vs .info names. This year I somehow got handed the job to manage the company domain names and get to decide if renewalls of some of the .coms are worth their .info/.biz and .us replacements. Is www.imprintusa.com worth renewing when www.imprints.us or www.imprints.info may appear superior?
The new extenions will certainly take some renewalls away from grandpa .com.
