Things are not always as they apear iZoot, it's not the moral conservatives funding and pushing this legislation through. It's the brick and morter big business gambling industry in the US. They are trying to put a "moral conservative" spin on it to fool the naive into not seeing their hidden agenda. Make no mistake, this is the work of Las Vegas and Atlantic city.

For those that are unfamilier with Jack Abramoff (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Abramoff), he was an expert at putting the "moral conservative" spin on his successfully stopping a new indian casino from being built. After his real sources of funding were exposed, it turned out to be two competing Indian Casinos who had funded his efforts. It turned out that the "moral conservatives" had little to do with it Except to be painted as the scapegoats.

Thanks for the reply .. but I have no illusions when it comes to the big US casino corps having a hand in this. They have a heavy hand in it ... and as you put it. Make no mistake, the religious/moral majority is as heavily involved and they are both playing off each other.

I was just wondering that fabulous.com might take a particularly big hit from this development as they specialize in Gambling ppc.

Might be time to buy some Partygaming stock.

could be time to gamble on the gambling shares, like you say. bush has to sign it in a couple of weeks doesn't he? he might, he might not. i bet those with generic gambling domains asking for $xxx, xxx a few weeks/months ago wish they hadn't been so greedy! :whoo:

It will probably resolve itself in the good old American democratic tradition. Another presidental assassination most likely.

Hi Rubberduck,
nice thought. unfortunately it only seems to happen to the nice guys, like JFK. (God bless him)
No worries for Bush then. It's more straightforward for him. i.e the size of the backhander or if their 'daddy's friends'.
I'm sure something will get sorted out. It doesn't affect me personally as don't have any of those domains. It might move us away from the obsession of gambling & dating. what's the next big thing?

You don't know the half of it. :peace:

$xxx, xxx poker name, declined offer and I aggressively pursued the domain with sporadic increased offers over the past two months.

For sure it will hurt them, if the online gaming industry shrinks then the PPC bids will be sure to go down because there won't be as much compitition.

I still find it hard to believe that Bush will sign the thing. Just as he thumbs his nose at pulling out of Iraq, he'll do the same about online gaming.

I'm failing to see how Bush wouldn't sign a port security bill during a congressional election campaign.

Perhaps he wasn't aware it was "attached" to it. It's being signed, everyone that is being affected is already packing up shop to work around this.

The bill doesn't really go into detail about how it will punish anyone that is caught with this, so people will just find different ways to get funds into their online account.

The only way this is going to stick is if the ISP's make it so. The bill gives them alot of interptation on what they can do, so it could be that they just block access to the sites.

The US likes to legislate morality and they also like to tax. Hard to tax someone in Antigua.

Interesting points in this article:
http://www.eog.com/news/industry.aspx?id=9744

A couple are:

"It is important to note that, once signed, the new legislation will not criminalize individuals for playing poker online. The bill will try to prevent the transfer of funds to online gaming."

and... Full Tilt said on their website, "...we do not expect any immediate impact from the legislation, as the banking industry has 270 days to implement new rules after the bill is signed.”

My poker accounts are already starting to get closed:

Due to the imminent passing of the Federal Unlawful Gambling Enforcement Act on September 30 th 2006, we are no longer accepting wagers from residents in the United States. We regret to inform you that from 11am EST on 3rd October, 2006, we will be closing all your gaming accounts.

Your balance, minus any uncleared bonuses, will be refunded to you by check within the next 3 to 4 weeks.
