I recently purchased a $6.99 eNom account from somebody on this board and have been using it with great success.

Unfortunately, only a day before I bought the account, I sent an inquiry to eNom's salespeople asking for details about opening a new account. Of course, the info I received back was not nearly as attractive as what I saw I could buy on the board, and I went with that option instead.

Now, this salesperson keeps e-mailing me asking if I would like to open an account, and I am not sure how (or if) I should respond. If I tell the truth, do I risk losing it because this is not legal? Is it technically illegal but tolerated? Is it completely legal?

Anybody have any insights?

I am not sure of your situation because you did not get your account from me.

enom sales people do send you an email about once a week, once you inquire about a reseller account.

Looks like you were set up at $6.99, which means the account above you makes 4 cents on every domain you register.

Why do you think something is fishy with your account? You said it is fine.

I have no reason to think anything is fishy. I was just unsure if eNom had any issues with people buying and selling accounts without them being in the middle.

Resellers can create sub-accounts, and charge a set-up fee if they wish.

You are a reseller, and also have the ability to create sub accounts.

Hope this helps.

Well, what I really want to know is if I was to e-mail this person back and say "no thanks, I bought an account from someone else" is there any chance I could get this person or myself into any trouble?

Not that I would really do that, but I am trying to get a feel for how this works.

Thanks

I think I know what he's saying. I have put some thought into it also. I know that Enom will keep spamming you over automatically. This happened after I inquired about a reseller acount a long time ago

Doberry do you have the ability to delete accounts that you created?

Also what happens if you pack up and leave town? Does that screw the people underneath you.

Can a sub-reseller set up retail or resell an account for someone else for a setup fee. And is $8.95 the lowest price you can give them for the major domains?

Very good questions... I have often wondered the same things.

I can create and delete sub-accounts in my account. So what if I register a ton of domains now in my account and then the person who created the account for me decides to delete it or they cancel their own account where does that leave me. I guess the mental picture that comes to mind is a "dangling pointer" in a computers memory.

Also i'm thinking about refilling my account to register some names. Does anyone know a good formula to give me at least the 100 minimum and a final value as a multiple of 6.95 after the 3 percent deduction?

And say I want to transfer ownership of a domain to a person. Do they just need to sign up for a basic ENOM account or do I have to create a sub-retail account for them?

Lots of questions for us newbies.

I will try to answer a couple of the questions real quick.....

1) Even if the guy above you (who set up account) packs his bags and leaves town - your names are safe. Whatever he does or doesn't do - has no effect on the status or ownership of your names.

2) To transfer a name to a new owner - all they need to do is sign up for a FREE eNom account - and then you just 'push' the name to them. There is nothing more required from either party.

namepopper, can you answer my concern as well?

does eNom have any issues with people reselling unused eNom accounts without their involvement?

has this ever come up before?

You asked this already.

Retail or reseller sub-account creation is possible, and it is up to the reseller if he/she wants to charge a set-up fee or not.

If you set your pricing above your pricing, you will collect commission on every reg.

Thanks Doberry - I guess I was just being a little overcautious.

Okay if I push it to a regular account (which I already had before) I pay $29 dollars for a domain name for registration and renewal which is way higher than anyone would normally pay "in the know". And I don't want to go through the crap of pushing back and forth between names.

What I was concerned about was having a domain name registered but not being able to access it or anything if my account was deleted and I had not pushed it anywhere. What happens in this instance. You would no longer have a login so you couldn't access anything. Does the money you have in your account then disappear into into enom's pocket and they no longer have any record of you? I don't think doberry would do this to me but again it does concern me especially if I start to resell domains. It would make me feel better if there was not a way for the person above you to delete you out of existence.

clemzonguy - I think you are covered but I'm going to run a little test.

I am going to push a name into a new account that I create. Then I will go and close/delete the new account from my main account. I will then see what happens when I try to log in to the new account - and access the domain.

First I have to go find a crappy domain that I don't care about - just in case! :D Hehe

Stay Tuned.............

I have GREAT news.

Nobody should ever worry about having their account DELETED by the person(s) above them. They can't do it.

If the account contains ANY domains - even just ONE - they will get the following message..........

"* This account contains domain names and cannot be deleted.

Have those domain names moved out of this account through 'pushes' or 'transfers' before trying to delete this account."

I tested it 4 times to be sure - so there is nothing to worry about. Actually this is the first time I have ever tried to delete a sub account before. It simply won't let you do it - if the sub account has any domains in it.

This was a good test/experiment - and I think a lot of people will be happy to hear this information.

So there you go! :D

Thanks Namepopper.

I believe the same also applies if there is money in the account, and no domains.

Namepopper - thanks for your research.

Wow really appreciate you taking the risk to find that out. It definitely allays my fears as I now build my registration site.

***Should I use the RegistryRocket stuff/PDQ they provide or is there a better way to do this?***

I think this equation will tell an exact number to fund your account with

.97 X AMOUNT CHARGED = ACCOUNT REFILL AMOUNT

Question is do they round down or up?? I would assume down

So if you want to fund 15 domains for 6.95 ($104.25) you should put in your account $107.48 to leave $104.25 remaining. I may go with $107.50 for a good even number so I can leave a penny or two in the account if I were to use it all. :)

Using namecheap I would have spent $8.88 x 15 = $133.2. But I really don't mind paying the extra money they are a good service and I have my domains with them now. However, enom will be useful for providing domain registration services of my own in the future.

Thanks guyz.:D :D
