4 Snaps & 7 GoDaddy's for the just finished drop...

What happens? Out of all the names, I got the 2 worst ones!

0 of 7 for GoDaddy
2 of 4 for Snap

I've had it, the sooner WLS gets here the better! Can't win anything decent these days.

To add insult to injury, I also missed a name that I had a godaddy on & a 8.75 bid @ NW...

Let me get this straight.

You're surprised because NW didn't go nuts trying to catch your
$8.75 domain. You're not too happy because Godaddy (which
happens to be the biggest piece of crap), didn't catch anything
either (big surprise). And Snap got 50% (their average %).

In reality you've utilized TWO services (Godaddy, Snap) out of
a possible 6-10.

Whatever happened to the other 5-8 drop catchers out there?
What about namewinner, pool, dropwizard, thefirstname,
007domains and countless others? The only WAY TO WIN NOW
IS TO UTILIZE ALL RESOURCES. Putting a snap on a name, sitting
back and waiting for it to fall into your lap won't do it anymore.

WLS will NEVER help you, me or the other thousands of small
players. If you can't win now, you better start packng your bags
and start looking for a new job.

Do the math. Do the research. And open your eyes. WLS WILL
DESTROY the little guys. The only true winners will be BD and
Ultimate Search. Out of which BD will completely dominate
the market in about 1.5 years (given that WLS comes along in
2 months).

The little guy is suppose to spend thosands utilizing 6-10 drop services? !

Do the math. Do the research. And open your eyes. WLS WILL
BE the ONLY chance for the little guys. The true winners will be the thosands of little guys that actually get a decent name once in awhile .

Agree with Bid, WLS is much better than the current system. It's almost impossible to use all the drop services, too many of them and too costly in both money and time/effort. Plus the bids are amazingly high.

I had several names lately which I mined myself and I really doubt they were on the radar screens of others. With WLS I likely would have got them all. Snapnames lost them all except 1 low value name. I think they have lost about 12 of the last 13 or so, including one today to Pool.

Snap is perhaps slighly better than a few weeks ago but still of very dubious value. I would never waste money buying or renewing Snaps anymore. I have thrown in the towel on Snaps.

As Bid said, the small players will be big winners every so often with WLS, especially on names they mined themselves. Now they lose most all the time. Bring on WLS.

Thanks Real ..but we dont know for sure that WLS will be better.. the only thing we know for certain is the way it is set-up now sucks..
If WLS is better great ..if it isn't.. the same people that are winning now will be winning then..

so in other words 99% of the people have nothing to lose ..and everything to gain.

If WLS works the he 1% that get everything worthwhile now..

well welcome to the middle class :cheeky:

Perhaps you haven't read Dukes interview with BD president.

Here is the short truth.

BD spends between $5k and $15k on domains EVERY DAY.

Let's assume they spend an average of $12k/day on domains
(this is mostly due to auction services such as NW, Pool).

$12,000 = 500 WLS subscriptions.

That means, that BD can now buy 500 WLS subscriptions PER DAY
and secure the domain 100%. Now, assuming that they will do
what they're doing now, and scan a few months ahead, they
will be able to WLS every Excellent, Good, and Crap name
and still save thousands.

I don't remember many days with 500 good, BD quality domains
dropping. 100 at most? I doubt even 100 but let's say 100.

100 WLS x 24 = $2400.

Now, instead of BD spending $5k on a single name, they can
spend $2400 and get 100 domains. What will they do with
the rest of the money? Well, they might as well get all the other
"crap" names as well.

Bottom line, WLS will save BD a LOT of money. If you think I'm
lying, please read the interview with Mr. Mann on DNJournal.com.

BD can and will be able to purchase WLS slots on every half
decent domain dropping within 90+ days, EVERY DAY.

Now, with all the money they save, what stops them from going
even deeper and picking up WLS slots for 3,4,5,6+ months ahead
(given that Verisign will allow that, and I'm sure they will because
they value the all might $$). Nothing stops them.

Now, tell me, if they can put snaps on excellent names weeks
to months before they even go REG-HOLD, how will the "little
guys" win?

I MUST be missing something.

The funny thing is, 3 months from now all of you WLS lovers will
be cussing WLS and complaining that now you REALLY can't get
a ANY name. Now that will be !

You can always approach the registrant and take your chances.

I would advise that you register WLS way in advance of a drop (assuming Verisign allows that). Those that are already indicating a drop will be rapidly snapped up on the word go. You can still grab them, but you will need to be very fast.

Yes, I understand that.. but the point you are missing is they wont get WLS on all the ones they want.. or are first to..

what that means is the tens of thosands of names that they dont get to first means that those that do..meaning the the thosands of little guys WILL get those slots and WILL get those names .if and when they drop.. Unlike to day when even if you get there first ..well that doesnt means squat..

And BD understands that very well as do all the other large players.. they know they will not get to every decent name first..that they will miss out on a tremendous amount of prime realestate that they normally have a %60-%70 chance of getting

You dont see them all pushing for WLS now do you..

yes I read the article and yes he claims he wont hurt them
But I have played more than enough poker to know ..that they arent holding.. he's bluffing.. they will take a hit as well the other large players...

UNLESS they change their strategies and prepare for WLS...

I suspect that a new corporate entity will arise with investmenst in the tens of millions ready to do just that.. skip WLS and simply pay a small premiunm fro the current holders..

I'm a bit confused. You think a multimillion dollar giant won't
prepare for the biggest change this market has ever seen? A
change that will mean SURVIVAL or DEATH to their current
dominating system. Did you bump your head?

How can you think that they will not ADOPT to this change? How
can you think that they haven't been preparing for this long
before you've even heard of the news. Geez, if you're gonna go
shoot after names long before they hit the Exp mark what makes
you think that a giant with hundreds of thousands of dollars allocated
to do nothing more but improve their domain searching technologies won't do the same?

Suggesting that BuyDomains will lose out on WLS and let the
"little guys" win because they ARE NOT PREPARED is as stupid
as saying that Verisign is honest and plays by the rules.

Consider this. If you're getting ready for a complete makeover
of the current system, wouldn't you expect your competitors
to get ready as well? Isn't it COMMON SENSE?

BuyDomains and Ultimate Search are more "WLS READY", then
you or I ever will be.

Now tell me again, WLS will help the little guys because BD is
too stupid to realize that WLS is coming? Hahaha. I needed
a good laugh before bed.

You can be as rude as you like and laugh all you want.. wont change the fact the with WLS tens of thosands of WLS subscribtions on decent names will be held by tens of thosands of the smalller players for a change..instead of a handful of players

We will know soon enough who will get the last laugh..

Ehh, I can be "rude" sometimes, but it's only because people
don't see things form my point of view :-D

I win with the current system, and I know the new one will
not work for me.

You're right, only time will tell (that I'm right). :eek:k:

Night guys...

A welcome scenario. A new type of firm(s) could make good offers on names with WLS's on them and buy direct from the owners using WHOIS data, bypassing WLS holders.

Then perhaps offer the name back to the WLS holder (someone who they already know wants the name) for a large premium. Could be an excellent buisness plan!

It would seem such a happening would tend to increase resale values significantly and pull the domain market out of its slump.

WLS is definately more positive than negative to most of us than the current terrible system. I also don't believe BD will do better under WLS as they claim. Why are they and others so violently opposed to it then? Their overall costs per name acquired will skyrocket under wls.

Read my post a few lines above and tell me exactly how
domain costs will skyrocket for BD after WLS.

I've shown my math, now please show me your reasoning...

If approaching registrants becomes the only means to acquire names once WLS claims are made, which it will, cost of acquisition will generally skyrocket.

Resellers try to trade at a prices that are wholesale in order to ensure they can buy enough quantity/variety to sit out a long period before a seller comes along, if ever. And they must secure a huge margin to cover those names that will never be sold.

Obviously you didn't read my post in full; as I stated I said that I got the 2 WORST names out of the whole lot. Snap convienently got the 2 worst ones & didn't get the 2 better ones. I wouldn't insult godaddy as I have gotten better names through them then though snap; obviously godaddy have a better script but just need more registrars. But to be fair I have had more shots with godaddy than with snap.

As for using all the other drop services; if I wanted to spend thousands on the names I would'nt bother back-ordering them & just wait for the drop & bid them up @ pool & NW etc... which is what the big boys do now.

Putting a snap on a name, sitting
back and waiting for it to fall into your lap won't do it anymore.

Glad you see it that way; that's why we need WLS.. only way you get a name nowadays with even the slightest bit of value is by bdding up for it.

As for BD & WLS; sure, you can make the argument that they will OWN a LOT of WLS slots; good for them.... they can't possibly get every single slot available; they may be big but they can't beat EVERYONE to EVERY name.... if th small player can get a WLS on a good name once every 6 months, hey, that's beating the current system where they end up with nothing.
