Try it and see how easy it is to slice away the spam in less than 30secs everyday.

I've spent too much time reporting spam, and getting even more in return grrr.

Mailwasher is like an ignore button. Heh, the best things in life are free :D

Not yet. I'm still in my trial period. :)

I'm hoping he will add a feature to automatically delete email that has Chinese characters.

Adding cn.rbl.cluecentral.net to your blacklist should do the trick.

Do you mean add it to DNS Blacklist Servers?

Mailwasher is excellent but does not enforce a $20 licence fee. Licencing is optional and the site suggests "anything from $3", even without a licence you are free to use it without expiry and to even get some support!
It is the simplest spam disposal programme I have ever used and I thoroughly recommend it to all.

I was kind of hoping there would be a feature where any spam that was in your box, you could label as spam and it would report said spam to spamcop or whomever.

Just earlier I was thinking of getting a spamcop.net email address to have as my domain contacts. $30/year for the first, $15 for each additional. Might be worth it to get one, and have the most at risk boxes funnel to it.

I used a prog with a Spamcop reporting feature in it some months ago but many of the emails I sent to report actually came back with messages like "mailbox full". In the end it just became irritating and I went back to Mailwasher - quick and easy.

Spamcop email is another excellent way to get your email "washed" before it hits your inbox. You get the Spamcop server to retrieve your mail from your original POP account, and then you set your settings to retrieve your email from SpamCop's POP. Quite simple really if you are familiar with email account setups.

What it does which Mailwasher doesn't is to allow you to report literally hundreds of spam mails to ISPs and Host Providers within 3 clicks and that's it. Their instant mass reporting feature is up and it works like a charm.

My girlfriend had a massive spam infection (about 100+ spams a day in a very short period) after signing up for a few fun sites and playing a Jackpot game originating from a spam to her email.

I signed her into a Spamcop account, and today, she downloads ziltch spam into her email client (Outlook Express). For maximum spam filtering, ensure that relays.orisoft.com blacklist is enabled. You can enable over 10 blacklists in your Spamcop account. Open relays are the biggest source of spam today, and Orisoft just blacklists the ip addressses involved. This has proven, through my observation, to be the most effective means to identify spam, forget the spam filters that try to figure out heuristics and all that crap.

Just be sure to keep your whitelist current to eliminate false positives from people important to you.

Is Whitelist the same as Friends list? I was adding people to my friend list in Mailwasher. Nice program. It was easy to setup and operate.

What I have been doing is using Outlook Express to filter out any mails that have certain words in the subject (like viagra), or certain phrases in the body (like to be removed). Those are moved to a 'probably spam folder'.

Anytime email got thru that filter that should have been caught, I would add a key word to the filter to catch that type of mail next time. It's self-tuning, worked good., not great, but good.

I would sort thru that folder, deleting the ones that were spam. I later found out that some emails have images in them that when downloaded, are logged and point to the fact that that email address is a valid one. So what I chose to do is download my email, let the filters pull out the probably spam, then have ZoneAlarm cut off all the internet access to that computer, then go thru the email.

Sort of paranoid, eh? :) It's been working for me. I go thru the filter during bored times where I don't have anything better to do.

One filter I could never make in OE is one that targets mails with random chars in the subject like "hey wildcard, how are you?! lksdfsdfkjsdlfkjslfj" Atleast with Mailwasher, you can see the mail subjectlines before donwloading and kill those mails.

I am at work, so I can't check it out right now - but does mailwasher have the option to add blacklist servers like the open relay one you mentioned above? If so, can you tell me how and what servers you have in there? Or, is that option only available to spamcop account holders?

I hope you don't mind me asking you questions on their product. :)

1. Yes

2. Yes. Tools > Options > Edit DNS blacklist servers > [add in your blacklist URLs in the box provided)

After you have done so, remember to tick the box for "Check origin of ....", otherwise it won't activate.

I've just tried their Benign product. It's superb! Strips away all traces of web bugs before you preview your mail. Web bugs are used by a majority of spammers to auto-verify your existence the moment you preview pane your email. Just the thing I was looking for and probably the first in the market for this!
