You do not own the software so you have no power to approve or not.

How you figure that? I own the hardware, and I'm the ADMIN of the CPU - with out my approval - software companies have no right in accessing my drive and uploading their updates.

lol

when you accepted the Licensing agreement, you gave up all rights

as MS owns all rights to the OS on your computer
MS owns your computer and owns you period :)

It happens to me all the time. Its automatic update. It is turned on auto when you purchase the pc.
You go to control panel. Then to Automatic update then turn it off or select the upgrades etc.

It reboots itself when it automatic update or u manually update.
P.S. you can't do anything about it as its microsoft OS you can't change anything..

Why would microsoft want to hack your computer? Funny guy.

I guess you could say, It never crossed my mind that Microsoft could hack into your computer and upgrade a critical setting with out your approval, even though I set the settings that I need to make the call of YES OR NO when it comes to critical updates!

We going off the track. microsoft as per the EULA of their different version of OS:
1) has the authority to install critical updates
2) automatic update setting support restart

Security Updates. Owners of such Secure Content (“Secure Content Owners”) may, from time to time, request Microsoft to provide security related updates to the Microsoft DRM components of the Product (“Security Updates”) that may affect your ability to copy, display and/or play Secure Content through Microsoft software or third party applications that utilize Microsoft DRM. Why do you to think? This is all part of Microsoft's master plan To hijack our domain portfolios, They figure to capture our user name and passwords, change the name servers and cash in on our PPC.. (What little left were getting)

Now I know what your thinking, "Why would Microsoft do such a thing?" The most logical explanation is to raise enough cash to buy out Yahoo, But why Batman's computer and not yours? That's a no brainer, Microsoft is moving in on the Canadian market, their not interested in Hong Kong just yet.

If you got auto updates turned off, then it should not have downloaded by it's self, it should have asked and download once you oked it. It then ask you to restart after downloaded and installed, but will restart it's self after some time only then.

You need to check for virus or spyware, in most cases it's spyware installing it's self, with some thing you download but didn't know it had spyware.

Although I haven't confirmed that MS is the culprit, I do think some updates will change settings.
Probably resets some settings to default. I always set windows update to notify only.
After some XP updates, the setting has changed to automatically download and install updates, without my input.
I haven't had this happen with Vista.
