Gerry,
You're missing the point.
A lot of folks here were enthusiastic about mobis. A lot of folks invested $$ and time. It didn't work out. It's not a big deal! In biz it happens all the time.
What followed after the mobi implosion is rather unusual.
A small clique of self-appointed mobi marketeers decided they can fix the problem. They started these meaningless threads JUST LIKE THIS ONE!
And they started harassing everybody who questioned the mobi PR wisdom.
mjnails is the most vicious of them all. And what do you gain?
Nothing!

Not missing any point.

I am one of them, the Notorious Big G.

.mobi has gained a lot of ground.

Getting its footing here in the US.

Unquestionably, a ton of junque regged and a ton of junqued dumped.

But I see a ton of .com, .net, .org and everything in between being regged, pimped, and dumped on a daily basis - far more than .mobey.

As I have said before,

The problem with domainers are, well...they're domainers.

No marketing, development, branding, SEO skills at all.

Inevitably, when ever I reg something, no matter what extension, I view myself as the end user.

There is tremendous potential in .mobi

I stick with the numbers - 4:1

4 mobile phones to every 1 PC/Laptop.

No one on this planet can decide how and what to use for accessing a mobile site.

You want m.domain.com?

Fine.

The person next to you wants wap.domain.com

And the next person in Germany wants domain.mobi.

and so on, and so on.

Domainers seriously keep forgetting that they do not control the internet and internet commerce.

Someone forgot to tell the billions of people on the planet-

Yoo Hoo.

Yeah, you.

You have to use em dot domain dot com if you want to have a mobile web site.

The same is true with dot mobi.

I love all the threads we don't need .mobi!

Who is we?

A select few people reading the thread?

As if those "we" controlled things?

It is all in the marketing and the branding.

And .mobi brands itself well to the mobile internet.

Will it succeed?

I firmly believe it will.

Like I said, I have 4:1 odds and I'll take those odds.

The consumer will determine what wins and what will be used.

The consumer will make that decision based on how, what, and where they get the message.

We are facing an onslaught of domain extensions and formats like we have never seen.

IDN, the new gTLD's, the brands, the generics, the cities, the countries.

The internet is about to become a massively confusing and cluttered space.

Already there are over 250 extensions.

With all this confusion and all this hodge podge of domaining, what one thing says mobile better than .mobi?

You want m dot?

Fine.

Tell all the others.

Well, this is a well-reasoned reply!
It probably makes some sense.
I did manage to flip a few mobis right after the land rush.
And maybe I'll sell the rest some day. But not likely.
What I'd like to see is the end of harassment.

How about Gorillas.mobi no takers at $9.99?

http://cgi.ebay.com/Gorillas-mobi_W...286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66:4|65:13|39:1|240:1318

I like CaesarsPalace.mobi with no takers at $1.99. Mobee speculators are hurting.

http://cgi.ebay.com/www-CaesarsPala...286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66:4|65:13|39:1|240:1318

i know what you're saying, but things like CaesarsPalace.mobi are worthless in any TLD that doesnt have traffic.

the bubble has popped... if you remember i was one of the only mobee people admitting there even was a bubble a couple years ago.

A domain has to make sense. Before I spend any of my hard-earned cash, I ask this question " What kind of a Website would this domain make?" People forget that domains are actually an ip address. I am the proud owner of www.ForSale.mobi
When I bought it, I thought...good domain for real estate...or maybe selling a bunch of stuff.. With that in mind, I shelled out my cash.

I have sold a grand total of two.

And donated one (with a site built).

Not looking to cash in.

Not yet.

What I do see (if this makes any sense at all) is I see the market coming to me.

Traffic is up significantly.

Domainers want to see money from parking or from clicks.

Developers want to see traffic and their site used.

I am a domainer/developer and like to see both sides to this.

Site usage is very high but people are not clicking on Adsense or AdMob enough to make other domainers see value.

But Dammit - I like the fact that I have built some sites that people are actually using.

Ask yourself this...

when you're walking around with the mobile phone and you are looking for something do you want to land on and waste your time on a parked page?

Hell no.

My guess is 80% of the names in any extension are parked pages.

That's just a guess.

Could be higher or lower (I think higher).

For long term growth and potential, where do you want to be?

Parked?

Or actually being used.

Think about it.

Some people are in for a real shock and I can not wait to hear every one crying and screaming about how unfair it is.

There is a real shocker about to be dropped on the Mobile and PC world from a major search engine.

I dare say the .mobi after-market is going to heat up big time.

I got a glimpse of this a few nights ago and just shook my head.

The only thing I am concerned with is a spike in reverse hijacking attempts or bogus WIPO's and UDRP's.

actually, no its not. no TLD's will be allowed that are confusingly similar to existing ones.

and if .mobile does come out... i will buy that and make some money off it too.

Lord, it just won't die!

Mobi just won't die!

Lord, I remember all those tales over the past several years of the final nail in the .mobi coffin.

This thing is smarter and craftier than McGyver making a hydrogen bomb out of a paperclip.

then how do explain .cm

lol c'mon dude... thats a country code and not part of their new gTLD application rules which were just written last year.

there are plenty of category killer keywords that are not TLDs yet.... i really doubt people would want to be in direct competition with the small set of new TLDs already out when there are virtually limitless possibilities still out there.

Jeez. I hate fake news :)

what, Fox?

doesnt matter... they lead in news ratings here in the U.S. by a landslide.
