I have less than 400 there presently, used to have over 1200.

That's 75% less that I have either dropped or transferred out.

Are these names that were dropped or actually transferred to another registrar?

Could be either, there is no way to tell, they are just names no longer with Moniker.

Probably a combination of both, remember 1 million plus of those names still at Moniker are Oversee owned names.

I do not know if they were 'dropped' or 'moved', as Adam says and Doc Com confirms probably a case of both rather than either individually. If they were just drops then I would have thought it reasonable to have thought that other registrars would have shown generally the same kind of level of decline, although that is not rock-hard evidence it is perhaps a point to take into account.

I think 'domainers' in general are just getting really fed up with how Oversee actually run their businesses, what with 'Halverez' and 'Chef Patrick' and of course the level of customer service (or lack of it) it would hardly be surprising if domainers did not 'move'.

Out of habit, what are the good reasons for staying at Moniker now that Monte is no longer in charge ?

None that I can see. The only reason I still have domains there, is because I've been too lazy to get my thumb out of my *** to transfer them.
In one or two cases I know I also don't really have any good alternative for that tld.

I stil register .net and .org there since godaddy costs more. But I am moving my better domains out
of moniker and into godaddy, because of DTVS. So the elephant killer still gets my business (for now).

Does anyone know how to get bulk auth codes from Moniker?

Not sure about now but in the olden days you used to have to beg the king for the codes. ;)

I moved away from Moniker years ago because 3 or 4 times all my parked domains that used their dns 'accidentally' pointed to the moniker homepage.

Moniker has always been like Alcatraz, easy to get in, impossible to escape.

A very good analogy.

I wonder who at Oversee actually reads the forums? Surely someone there with enough clout can start banging some heads together and get them sorted out. It is always a pity when a company goes downhill because 'THEY' think they know what is best and can bluff their customers so much. (The word 'bluff' was chosen after careful consideration, I could have chosen from many other more descriptive words but did not think it necessary.)

Their customer service is severely lacking, many times their systems are down, and registrations are not going through, I call tech support, and they always claim it has something to do with me, I check around, everyone else is having issues, and they act clueless.

Then the registrations stay in Pending status, while money is taken, they finally FAIL. Ask for a refund, they say it has already been done, next day check, no refund. Yet another support ticket, 24 hours later something is done.

Also I pay to renew domains, and money has been taken, no domain renewed, ok another support ticket. Well with 1000 other companies out there, enough said.

Select all the domains you want to transfer out. You may use the search option.

Click "Transfer-Out" in the left menu.

Add whatever information you want to the Transfer Out Authorization Form at the bottom.

You'll receive an email with all the auth-codes.

Just to clarify – The names were dropped/expired/not renewed. They were NOT transferred out of Moniker to another registrar!

Quadnames – Who is your rep?

Katherine – YES, Monte was a big part of Moniker and his presence is missed everyday however it’s (still) business as usual without him.

David G – Receiving bulk EPP codes (to transfer names out) of Moniker is VERY easy. As .no stated:

Select the domains you want to transfer out
Click the "transfer-out" link on the left menu and follow the instructions
You will receive an email with all the EPP codes to the email address on file

EASY PEASY!

(DotComGod) I’m not sure why you’d compare Moniker to Alcatraz as I can tell you Moniker is by far the easiest registrar to transfer names out of. (I’m not just saying this because I work here. I have personal experience transferring names out of other registrars)

If anyone is currently having any issues, feel free to contact me directly for assistance/follow up.

Does that statement mean that Oversee had been dropping a lot of domains lately, or what?
Otherwise, if that was true, it is equally true across the whole board of registrars, and then moniker would NOT lose in the rankings!
I know that I have decreased the number of domains at Moniker, not dropping but moving to other registrars, and so has many others. Are you honestly saying, (honestly?), that you've been gaining from other registrars as many as you've lost?
It's no secret that many domainers have lost faith in you, so it seems that statement is quite far-fetched... (Additionally, Moniker used to be among the cheapest for bulk pricing. No longer the case, so not even that is a reason to stay.)
But do you have numbers (lost/gained/dropped/newregs), to verify that statement?
