I only know the highest sold price of the domain types below:
COM: Business.com - 7.5M
CC: Beauty.cc - 700K
ORG: engineering.org - 198K

Anyone knows the highest sold price of any .NET domain?

Different sites report different figures. Where is the most reliable site to get this info?

Thanks.

I recall seeing some high .net figures in a site that mole provided the link to. I'll see if I can find it.

In the meantime, a couple of weeks ago someone bid $9,415 for tiger.net over at NameWinner and they grabbed the name for the highest bidder. No whois showing yet though.

So I guess this would be up near the top of the amounts paid for a .net.

Here's the link for auction sales:
http://www.smartcatch.com/

Based on the above plus tiger.net, I come up with the following provisional figures - maybe those with further .net sales information can cut and paste these figures and add their new amounts (plus provide an URL for the source of their figures):

Tits.net 16,000+ (see RealNames’ post)
Tiger.net 9,415 (top bid at NW July 29 2002)
Industrialsupply.net 5,000
6d.net 2,700
wifi.net 2,000

The "Porn King" publicly announced he paid $16,000+ for tits.net, which I believe to be a legitimate sale. That's the highest dot-net sale I have heard of.

The engineering.org sale is believed to be the highest dot-org sale at $198,000. However, it's now alleged by others from what I have read it may have been some type of odd transaction. The fact the page does not resolve to a web-site after all this time (2 yrs or more) is quite suspect. Would you pay that much money and not have a public web-site up?

The Beauty.CC sale was no doubt a scam and has been discussed here many times. The name actually expired recently :D Do a search for it, for details on that BS.

Many reported sales are really self-serving, insider transactions, scams or involve other assets more valuable than the domain itself but not itemized.

A text book example of that was AsSeenOnTV.com sale for 5 Million Dollars. However, it's believed the real asset allegedly was the rights to all the As Seen On TV Products, not the domain name by itself, but that aspect saw little publicity.

have you got a link about that realnames? I'd be interested in seeing the details, thanks.

agree that beauty.cc was definately not a real sale. Though engineering.org is now owned by The American Society of Mechanical Engineers so I would find it hard to beleive that that one was some kind of hype sale.

- nj.net sold for $35,000 on Afternic
- sportsbook.net went for $30,000 on Afternic

Both were in the past 6 months, so perhaps there are other big ones.

fizz: I don't think the figures on www.smartcatch.com are all correct. GK.com didn't sell for the listed price, as far as I know (never changed hands).

just realised my post to realnames wasn't clear - i'd be interested in seeing any links about asseenontv.com being for anything other than the domain name - thanks.

I recall reading various media stories about that subject but it was a long time ago. I will try to locate the information and links to it.

In addition, I edited the post so it does not sound so etched in granite as being 100% true since I do not have the news stories at this time.

Also edited regarding any allegations it was not legit as I have no evidence other than what others have said about it, which links I do not have handy as they were ages ago.

However, Snoopy, why in the world would they spend all that money 2 or 3 yrs ago and still not have a website up after all this time? Isn't it odd?

Perhaps it was owned by an officer of the Assn or an affiliated firm or an insider - just guessing at the possibilities. Perhaps it was 100% legit and they are just lazy in using the name.

No problem realnames, there are so many sources of information/opinion it gets confusing sometimes to remember where you read things - if you do come across the asseenontv.com article(s) I'd be interested in reading it/them.

Seem like .Net domain is hard to get a good positioning in
the domain market.

Everyone of you managed to sell .Net domain successfully in the past? Do you think .ORG is easier to be sold than .NET domains?

Hopefully Microsoft's .NET marketing would get .net domain a better exposure. :)

On January 14, 2000, the Company purchased, at a total cost of $5,000,000, the domain name, AsSeenOnTV.com. Consideration for the acquisition included a cash payment of $25,000 and a non-interest-bearing promissory note of $4,975,000. On October 13, 2000, the purchase contract was renegotiated, with the purchase price decreased to $2,800,000, and the resultant note payable decreased to a balance of $2,455,000. The entire note balance had been classified as a current liability in prior reporting periods, however with the restructure of the note agreement, only $60,000 is now a current liability due within the current operating cycle, with the balance being reflected as a long term liability. The renegotiated note payable requires monthly payments of a minimum of $5,000, or 5% of monthly gross sales, until October 2005, at which time, the Company will have 45 days to pay the remaining balance in full. The domain name is the only collateral for the renegotiated note. Should the Company default on the renegotiated note, the domain name would revert back to the seller, and the Company would forfeit all stock and cash paid to date.

Interesting excerpts from the SEC filing:

The sales of the "as seen on tv" products over the Internet has increased substantially in the past year due to the increased presence of the Company's domestic website, www.seenontv.com, and the exposure of the domain name AsSeenOnTV.com, and the resultant increase in sales due to the expanded product line available from As Seen On TV, Inc. The Company believes that this exposure will result in a customer easily remembering the AsSeenOnTV.com domain name and accessing that site for his/her product needs.

On May 16, 2001, Net e-Vantage, Inc.(Net e) offered to redeem 3,650,000 of the 4,500,000 shares of Net e stock which was owned by the Company, for total purchase price of $365,000. Upon acceptance of the offer, the Company was issued a promissory note for the full purchase price, with the entire principle balance, plus interest at the rate of 8%, due on May 16, 2002. The Company retains an equity position of approximately 19% of the Net e outstanding stock.
