People are forgetting the their computers are in their hands...its called smart phones. In countries where electrical grids are on-off, on-off, sat signals are pretty reliable.

It amuses me to hear (or read) people still referring to African nations as Third World Countries when they are more connected than most other nations. Politics aside, these nations and people have an entirely different concept and use for the internet.

Hi Katherine,

You are pretty much spot on. They cost about $7 per year at unforum.

However, I have become my own registrar and now they only cost about $4.50 compared to $7 per domain.

Acro, some of the published sales include: finance.co.za $70,000.00 fly.co.za $60,000.00

There are plenty of co.za sales, but most of them are not published. In the past few months I have had 8 sales with not one of them being published all between $1000 - $5000.00.

Gerry - You are spot on ! Yes, maybe not all South Africans have laptops or PC's, but ALOT of them do have smart phones with internet access.

N.B - I am not the one who owned fly.co.za or finance.co.za

I have mentioned them as examples as they were published

May be I am looking at a wrong place but I could not find a way to register .co.za. The site http://uniforum.co.za/ is very confusing and does not provide straightforward way to check or register domain name. In order to find available name you have to do whois search and if whois search result is "zero" then you can register the domain but big question where do I register.

It seems confusing to me. Enlighter poor me.

thanks,

Sid

Since i saw this post i've been regging a few .co.za's to boost my portfolio a little, i've been using namecheap.co.za they seem quite rapid, i trialled using two others but they were so slow to get the domains registered. Got a few good ones i think! Well i hope so anyway! It's quite good that there's a big english speaking contingent in SA, maybe if i sell a few i can get a plane ticket to go and visit some day! Thanks for the heads up Aqua84!

Thanks for sharing your success story with us!

One thing I would like to know is how to know any domain is traffic domain, if I have to register on the basis of country?

Do I have to take help of Google Adwords keyword tool and find searches based on countries? So how many searches a keyword should have in that country to get at least 100 type-in visitors daily?

Howzit Aqua84... lekker lekker Boet..

I was registering co.za domains way back. It served me well as I sold off most of my premiums then re-invested.

Autoinsurance.co.za
Vehiclefinance.co.za
Auctions.co.za

were some of mine...

There's a dude that bought most of them from me and then he sold it for more... no regrets, that's how it works...

I did however sell FlyExpress.co.za to South African Airways for a good price.

I still have some co.za left and dropped a tonne... but its not my main focus these days, it served me well

Cheers

and Good luck bru

Oh yes forgot, I just wanted to mention this notion about South Africa in general. Don't confuse South Africa with the rest of Africa. South Africa is far more advanced than any other African country.

Congrats on your success, Aqua84. And I really like reading from guys who take the time to tell others about their own stories, success or failure, especially in domaining. Great job creating this thread
