A .com name with "dotinfo" in it, like the above suggestion "netdotinfo.com", is particularly silly... like it's trying to act like a .info while still being a .com.
I agree with that last paragraph Dan. A .com will have to make sense, just like any other extension. However you are missing one VERY major point. I have said yes .info .us etc have a future but I have also repeatedly said that future was probably about 5 years from now. TODAY I would rather use a .com if I can find one that is acceptable.
The idea of the site is NOT to encourage interest in other TLD's than .com (though certainly that is likely to be a by-product of the site). I never said that. The idea is to do a magazine style site that gives everyone a look at the domain name business and personalities in it that they have never seen before. I will cover all of the main TLD's for sure but I am not looking to tout any one of them over another, including .com. This site WILL have to have an extension though so there will always be someone who wishes it was something different that whatever it might be.
I would like to have a specialist write a regular column on each extension, for example Domebase on .info, Mole on .biz, Bidawinner on .us , someone else on .org .net .com etc (I haven't asked any of these guys, I'm just citing possible examples).
I would like to profile a guy like GregR. Run a digital photo of him, let him tell people how he got started, amassed his portfolio and continued to succeed in a down market. I would also profile some of the controversial guys (if they will let me). I'm sure people would like to see what makes them tick.
I don't care one little bit about trying to do another site with long boring news feeds and mountains of statistics. I will provide links to those kinds of resources so people who want them can find them. I am interested in emphasizing the people and aspects of this business that make it so fascinating for so many of us. That would be fun for me and since this is not likely to be a big money making project it has to be fun or I am going to quickly lose interest in it.
To see how many think I should use .info or somethng else now, when I set up a poll , probably tonite, I will include a .info and a .biz, as well as .com .net and .org. I will leave .us out because this will be a site aimed at a global audience (.us has its place and I am a big booster, but this project is not the place for it).
I fully intend to put up live sites on .us .info and .biz in the next year or so, so I will do my part to help those extensions go.
