How was this established? If this is the case, the dnjournal.com article must have been using these aliases.
One way to find out would be to check and see if there was a nicholas or nick master in UT. I would image that this would establish quite a lot - if there was anyone by his name or a similar name in UT around 80-84

"Still he managed to stay out of trouble long enough to graduate in 1984 and go on to college. He spent two years at the University of Texas campus in Arlington, but could not suppress an urge to get out in the world and start his own business. "

I have tried an online search but cannot find a "UTA" database of graduates from '84. If anyone on DN lives in Texas, maybe they can visit UTA and get this info. Unfortunately I'm in The UK so I cannot do so.
If he was using an Alias, more than likely one of his names would be close if not correct. ie. Fits Name- Nicholas, Nick - Last Name Master, Masters or similar.
I have also tried a search on Google for accidents around 2001 in the Texas area involving a sports car and Sedan. Can't find any clues there. Thought this may turn up something. If anyone has any ideas, please help.

........If we can find out his real name from one of the things he mentions in that dnjournal article (if in fact he is using an alias) - then I think we can find out what has happened to the poor guy.

Addendum to my earlier post on What Happened to Namepopper? Perhaps the primary reason NP disappeared IMO was likely being very bitter and upset that he worked for no salary at all, many thousands of hrs of time at DNF, and GregR turned-around and sold dnf to DCG. If you are familiar with the events you will see NP's sudden posting vacation, restart of posts and then stop again, happened approx' the same time (just before & after) as the sale to DCG. It is believed both GregR and DCG offered no compensation at all to NP for all his incredible unpaid hard work and time. After all, without NP's hard work the sale price GregR got may have been much lower as NP made DNF so valuable with his work. NP was likely quite upset he was not offered some type of ownership interest in DNF as both compensation and a showing of deep gratitude too. It's somewhat amazing how the many misc forums manage to get such hard working Mods to work for absolutely nothing, especially someone as valuable as NP was. Again, this is only an educated guess and I could be wrong.

Very Sad.
I hope it is nothing more than that - but that would still not explain all the domains that he has allowed to expire. He loved the game. Once again, I think if we follow some of the leads that I suggested in yesterday's posts, we would find out who he is and maybe then, where he is, and try and contact him. . If it is hopefully nothing more than you suggest, the guy is alive and though extremely depressed, maybe knowing that people care as much as they do would give him a lift get him back into the fold. I am certain that there are 100 people out there that would invest $50 each in a new forum that can be his. I know that if we managed to find him and it was simply a case of depression, we could bring him round - but I need some detectives to help me out.
1) He was involved in a Car Accident in 2001 in Texas
2) He Graduated in 1984
3) He owned a video games arcade
4) People have an I dea of where he may have lived
5) Even if he used an "Alias" - the family he mentioned by first name are likely to be named correctly.

Put any of these 5 together and we are likely to be able to get some clues. Hopefully then we can turn this around. I didn't know him as well as some of you, but from the few dealings that I had with him, it is obvious that he was special.

As for the people that let him down, it is important that they understand that you can help people in this life and still be successful. It is a fallacy that you need to be ruthless in this world to succeed. I have worked 100 hours a week since I got involved with domains 3 years ago and have always tried to be kind and decent towards others. If the truth be told, I can probably buy and sell a few of those "players" that you mention a few times over, and the good thing is that it didn't cost me much to be a good person. If what you state does in fact apply to them, all I can say is shame on those that have put money before common decency and what goes around comes around.

On the other hand not everything on the Internet is as it seems and not everyone is who they say they are - it wouldn't surprise me at all if "Nick Masters" never existed and was purely a figment of someone's imagination.
I think the excitement and concern is probably misplaced and it has all been either a great joke which came to an end, or the realisation that it was a storyline that could not be continued forever.
Remember, the greatest "conmen" are the most plausible, so it should come as no surprise that "he" is seen to be "real".

Whether he was a "conmen" or not, your heart sure felt that he was "real". He never asked a single penny from me, he never imposed himself on me. He just lived life, giving much attention and emotion to the members here.

btw.. Merry Christmas pop, wherever you are.

You make a good point Webname - but using an "alias" does not class anyone as a conman. Many people online use "aliases" in order to protect their interests. But yes, it is possible that the whole thing is a con, though my "gut" tells me otherwise.
I believe that there was a very real person behind that Name, whatever he was called and due to his circumstances and I believe that the dnjournal article and photo that I referred to earlier was most probably accurate. This would suggest that there is a valid reason why someone housebound could get dissillusioned after further setbacks, ie. being treated in the way he was, and everything would then tie in.
I think that there are probably many "detectives" in this forum, being in our business I know that I have certainly needed to think laterally in order to succeed - all it would take is a few people working together and I think we could crack this once and for all.
Anyone who is not prepared to write this off should look at a few of my earlier suggestions and but their brains to work. If there is a real person behind all of this, he is a decent person who I am sure all will agree, needs a "lift". I think it is well worth a little "lateral thinking" as long as there remains a possibility.

My GF and I spent a LOT a (trust me, it was a LOT) of time trying to track Namepopper down. Everything lead to a dead-end. I spoke to several members here. Duke, my GF, and I spent an hour on the telephone kicking around possibilities and sharing information.

Whoever Namepopper was, he/she went to great lengths to cover their tracks (for whatever reason).

OK, in the interest of figuring out what happened to our friend here is some information, which I hope someone residing in Texas can make use of. Most of this has been discussed with Duke and Bob in private, and I know we have put a lot of effort into these leads already.

I know Nick's email ([email protected]) forwarded to [email protected]. It's well known that he was using a dialup account with Earthlink in Dallas, TX. I also recall an email like [email protected] and also [email protected].

Nick's earlier whois listed an address on Owens Boulevard, Richardson, TX.

The phone number listed on that whois is answered by "Darrell Muncy", a school principal in... Richardson, TX (http://www.richardson.k12.tx.us/Schools/principals.htm). I believe RJ or Duke spoke to him, and he claims no knowledge.

Muncy, Munvell??

Also, has anyone else realized that Sheila (lawpsych) has disappeared. I was in the middle of an email/PM conversation with her a couple of weeks ago, and...

Hohoho, and a bottle of rum :-D

Yup, as real as the sunrise. There are many reasons why people mask their identities, just like a stonefish in an area unfortunately infested by ravenous sharks
