Also to all you dufus' out there with the logic that if you proxy a name at 2,000 and the bid reaches that high it must be worth it. Get a grip!! There's 2 of you dingdongs thinking the same thing and loading every name under the sun in the bulkwindow
. Lists like the one stuff provided recently made this an even easier problem to create. YOU ARE GONNA PAY for the name now ding dong. If you dont know what its worth DONT BID ON IT!!!!!! DONT SPECULATE ON AUCTION PRICES....

If that guy's bidding it must be worth more right? Now get two or 3 of you guys thinking the other guy is bidding because i"it's worth that to the other guy, so I'll go higher" and you get into a big mess and you get what we got here today. FAILURE TO GET A GOOD DOMAIN AT A GOOD PRICE!!!

Not to worry strongvis, the lesson will be learned very quickly when the credit card statement arrives.

yep the worst hangover is a bidders hangover in 1 month.

Bidawinner. You and I have had our fair share of debates. You are wrong on this one. You have NO substantial evidence that would prove another theory of why someone would bid 2002$ on the name bigpanties or perhaps the name storeoutlet.com

It's not 1 person getting the bid that high. It's 2.

I've participated in auctions on and offline for the last 15 years. I know how they work and I know how bids get jacked up. It's from a bunch of newbies or clueless idiots coming in thinking they are getting a deal because they outbid the other guy. Well if you don't know what something is worth how do you know you got a good deal??

Unless I am missing something # 2 CANNOT BE charged for the name.. you see the bidding was FRAUD.. which invalidates any implied contract..

My point is simple strong..#1 those bids are fraudulent..

#2 the idea that that somehow Stuffs list caused this problem is ridiculas

#3 if I find out there is a concerted effort to stop these lists..I'll personally set up a a web site and broadcast them all over instead of just in DNF..

maybe i should edit the title of my post.
no one has really said it was fraud and nowhere did I say that bidder 2 would be paying either.

In a typical offline auction, you bid 2000 and I decide to outbid you to 2001 just because I knew you bid to 2000 and I decide not to pay, the second bidder is NOT responsible..... You are right. The auction house or auctioneer is screwed.

However, I dont think NW has really considered this and I'm not sure how they cover it in their terms. Either way SOMEONE will end up with some good names, I just hope they get what's coming to them and have to pay MORE than they are worth so they learn their lesson

Has anyone been running daily WHOIS reports to figure out who the people making these crazy bids at Namewinner are?

Even before today, many of the bids are beyond anything reasonable for the quality of the domains being bid on.

My point is simple economics. Supply and demand. Everyone here will agree.

Yours is illogical. You post your lists and every drop auction services prices will have higher bids. Also what good does it do you to post these lists? Please tell me. You service the web community and "give back" right.? Well I don't buy it. Tell me do you pay for your lists or just mooch them off other people. How long do you spend looking through a typical drop day list?

How long have you been doing this bid? You haven't seen this for yourself.? As soon as someone finds a new way to get a leg up in the drop business EVERYONE and their brother is on it and the prices per name go up.

Maybe you and DomainGuru should get together. You have the same mentality.

Hey! That's MY LINE, BUDDY!

Bidawinner, you really need to pop down to the clue shop and put a down payment on a BIG ONE.

Artifically inflating domain prices does NOTHING for the "reseller" market. It just pushes us backwards into the Afternic "I'll appraise your if you appraise mine" days.

I think a LOT of the high bids (>$2000) today were FRAUD.
Namewinner wrote:We have just made improvements today to prevent these kinds of fraud bids.
Unless they were smart enough to raise the "ding dongs" high enough and then "walk away" as a ridiculous proxy bid is left hanging, by an otherwise bonafide buyer...
strongvis wrote:Lists like the one stuff provided recently made this an even easier problem to create.
I agree it made it easier, but its good more rules have been put in place to combat this. Stuff wasn't the first person to publish lists of dropping names. This was going to happen sooner or later. NW needs to have the right safeguards in place for this type of problem.

You dont get it strong..the MORE people that participate in Namewinner and other drop services the MORE aftermarket prices will climb..
