depends on the prefix naming Manic
a .net is worthy for a network/hosting site
a .info is worthy as an info site...

it's not easy to compare these two in my opinion, unless we have a prefix name to work with.

I voted .info only because it is newer and may be more available.

I don't think the comparison is fair because the two are in different ballparks. I'm still used to seeing and using .net for hosting and other pure internet services, which are still big and growing businesses, while .info has some catching up to do.

It will be interesting to see which one steps to the front when web-services and wirless and stuff matures -which will be anyday I'm sure?

i'd take .net over any name, period. Its just all around cooler sounding and has the advantage of the recognition already built in.

.info is the best of the new extensions in my opinion, but sounds awkward with the extra syllable. It also has that unpleasant "Captain Euro" feel to it.

LOL

I had to go see what "Captain Euro" was about. It seems that the EU has sadly been reduced to a cheesy cartoon group of super heroes frightned that some evil (George Bush?) doer is hell-bent on taking over the new old kingdoms.

Oh, my.

Helen is a hottie, btw.

See it for yourself ->"Captain Euro"

.INFO definitely; truly unrestricted, international tld with tremendous versatilility for its usage; can hardly think of any subject/area (commercial or otherwise) where it's use will feel inappropriate!

.NET is decent but it could have been much better. Now it has it's "baggage" ...for one it shares its time line with .Com and despite being around for as long it's just around 10% of usage and valuation of it's bro .Com; so by sharing the same time line it can be considered a failure so to speak. Secondly, it has limitations in its scope of usage regardless of the fact that many users have ignored the guidelines.

P.S. Having this pole here on this forum is like conducting one on abortion rights in the Bible Belt; this place is teeming with "old-timers" who're hardcore .Commers, .Netters, & .Orgers to the point that many/most didn't even bother to get on board when new tlds were first rolled out.....Wonder, what the sentiments & forecasts would have been if many/most old-timers had not missed out.

Thankyou very much for your responses, people! :) Especially those who gave very detailed reasons.

My view on .NET is that it sounds better than .INFO, and is more widely recognised at this time, and yet it's meaning for the general population is undefined.

.INFO's meaning is pretty clear, and it seems to be gaining in popularity, but I agree that the two syllables make it more arkward than a singular.

I'm primarily looking at names for ecommerce and info sites, so logically the choice would be .INFO, but the pros of .NET are quite strong.

As for type-ins, up until now, I would say that they probably only work for .COM. (Anybody found significant type-ins for other extensions?) The question is, after .INFO is established who is going to be holding second place? And if an extension is ever going to take over first place, will it be .INFO?

I couldn't vote, my buggy browser I know.

.Net - but only if the DotCom is unavailable :)
I do have 3 .infos - but they all have zero typeins.

That seems to be the common experience, doesn't it? ...And also one of my reasons for considering the .NET. :)

.info

All I can speak from is personal experience on offers received. I have several good names where I have multiple extensions and the infos get far more offers than the nets. That decides it for me.

I voted for .info because it has a more versatile range of uses -- for any informational site, while .net is more narrowly for network providers. However, I don't generally like "which TLD is better" polls, since my own mindset is that they're all part of a namespace where each has different uses -- not better or worse, just different. Some might have a wider range of uses than others, but all have their purpose.

I would, I recently bought a .info from .com.net.org :)
