I just received another promotion e-mail from Network Solutions, and for the first time, I found it very interesting:

FREE TRANSFER & FREE YEAR

For a limited time you can transfer as many domain names as you like to Network Solutions absolutely FREE. Each name that you transfer will receive a FREE year added to its current registration. That's two free offers — free transfer and a free year — when you move a domain name registration to Network Solutions today.

Save time by consolidating all of your domain name registrations to Network Solutions, the first and largest domain name service provider. You will benefit from our industry leading Account Manager, which allows you to manage all of your domain names from a single screen.

If you have a large number of domains, a Consolidation Specialist can assist and track your transfers throughout the process. You can reach a Consolidation Specialist at anytime at:

Phone: 1-866-234-4131 (USA); 1-703-456-4640 (International)
E-mail: [email protected]

Your FREE domain name transfer includes a FREE year added to your existing registration — so transfer today.

----------------------------------------------------

Offer not applicable to domain names transferred for the intent of resale. Network Solutions reserves the right to change or cancel this promotion at any time without notice.

I am not sure it's worth the trouble of having domains @ NSI

hmmm... so NS is asking us to sell them our soul for the equivilant of a $7 enom purchase, to be followed by a lifetime of bondage.

I don't think so. Homey don't play that.

I am sure they have a stipulation that the domain must stay there
a certain amount of time.

I wrote to them. But, they sent me a form letter back. Which did
not answer the question.(Strike 1).

My biggest concern is, how difficult it would be to transfer out.

And, can you point your domain for free to a isp?

I have heard that they make it difficult to transfer out.

So, that is why I haven't taken them up on their deal.

Has anyone transferred out within the past couple months?

Yes, I transferred a couple mediocre names out of registerfly to Network Sol. . RegisterFly sent me a notice to renew in 45 days.

So, I renewed them thru Network Sol. for nothing.

I think their normal special renewal price is $ 19.00

I don't think I would transfer an "excellent name" to them.

Because, I am sure it will be difficult to transfer out. And, pushing
it within Network Sol. will probably be difficult.

Plus, they do not want "resellers". So, that might cause a problem
in the future.

no problem transfering out.

I am still trying to transfer out a number of names from NS after two months. I went thru all their bull with the required fax etc. and they just sent a form email letter with boxes checked as to why they didn't do the transfer. Was all crap. Also, I find it almost impossible to get them to send me auth codes. They will have to come up with something much better than "free" to scam me into letting them "steal" any more of my names.

I tried RegisterFly's $4.99 transfer and moved two .biz from OpenSRS and other two from DotRegistrar to them, the whole procedure was completed within 24 hours.

My Recommendation ? STAY AWAY from Network Soultions!

They are the worst! I have one more poor little hostage domain trapped there, because it is a .ws and you can't transfer them. They suck suck suck!

This "free" transfer is a desperate attempt to get back some of the MILLIONS of domains they have hemmoraged out! Don't fall for it! Just let them bleed to death!

Remember these are the same people who are responsible for "sitefinder" fiasco, the monopolistic wls, and who bought the .tv registry, just so they could charge thousands for 1st registrations on "premium" .tv names.

Free transfer indeed! :-( With NSI, NOTHING is free.
