I'm about to pull the trigger on a house in Paihia, Bay of Islands for the second week. I figure it's better to go north this time of the year. I'll have to come back another time for the south side.

Excellent choice
Congratulations
It should be perfect in the Bay of Islands for you

its weird, the only people in oz that love Sydney are those that live there, everyone else hates it including me, and I lived there for 8 years

Whereabouts did you live?

Must admit I've never been to WA but would love to one day soon...

I lived in Carlingford, Silverwater, Riverstone and Marayala from '93 to about 2001.

WA is Australia's best kept secret, and thats the way we like it :)

I'm going on a family vacation to North Island New Zealand the end of June. I've already covered the first week in Auckland. We like day hikes in scenic places. Where should we stay for the second week? After New Zealand we're going to Sydney for a week. Any recommendations for Sydney?

Hey Fearless,

You can't say you've been to Sydney without having done:

But if you're heading over later this month maybe you might want to check out the upcoming State of Origin match. Even if you're not a fan of rugby league, it's a great experience (just make sure you're not wearing anything Maroon ;)).

2 more days and we're off. Since I'm getting the gist that a week in Sydney is too long, I'm looking at splitting the week at the Blue Mountains.

Just in Leura? If you get to Katoomba which is a little further past Leura then I recommend my fave Blue Mountains restaurant - The Swiss Cottage. The smoked sausages and the choc fondue is worth the shortened lifespan. :approve:

Work up an appetite with a quick 18 holes......oh yeah.....

I'll second that - great restaurant.

And breakfast at the http://conservationhut.com.au/ in Wentworth falls after an early morning bushwalk is great.
