Sounds like it is probably the scam but if it is real and they dont ask you to get an appraisal then its all going to depend on how bad they want the name. If its something that they absolutely must have for some reason then you could get 6 figures or more but since it was just regged i doubt it is something they desperately need and cant substitute for another name and you will probably be looking at less than $1k. Ask them to make the initial offer and then take it from there. DO NOT get an appraisal though no matter what. If they are real and want an appraisal then they can get it appraised themselves before purchasing it from you.

Thanks to everyone for some excellent advice, what a great forum! I appreciate all the concern in regard to being conned but I have a good understanding of the major scams. This looks very legit so far. And I agree, just because they have lots of money it doesn’t mean they will pay a lot! I’m definitely not looking to become a millionaire, just hoping to make a good sale. I decided to let them make the first move and take it from there. I have sent a good sales pitch, keeping it to the point so will sit back and see what happens. I will consider a broker if they look serious and it gets into counter offers. To be honest I won’t even mind too much if it falls through because I have some good plans for developing the domain and this has given me the confidence to be pretty sure if I do a good job I will be able to sell it at some point. I’ll keep you updated, thanks for all the good lucks & support! :)

I use Phil Lodico at Fair Winds Trading. They only work with high end names. They recently sold pharmacy.com.

FairWinds Partners/CADNA is the enemy of domainers and you are working with them???

www.CADNA.org

It is against DNF policy for me to type what I'm thinking so I will keep it to myself.

Now, that I further thought about it, I bet you rarely communicate with them since you didn't really know their corporate name.

In the meantime while you figure out if you want a broker or not, I'd continue finding out as much about this company and its players involved as I can. There has been a couple times where a simple hour spent google-ing my buyer/seller has given me a gauge of where their price range might be. See what other site/investments they might have done. The most prepared in negotiations usually gets what they want.

Regards.

Hi everyone, just to give the promised update. Completed the sale after negotiation for $5000, not the huge payday I had hoped for but in my first month of domaining I'm pretty happy! I did try for more but the domain was a secondary concern for them so I decided to take the $. Non-disclosure for the name. Going to use the cash to pay off a bit of debt and get investing in bigger and better projects. Onward and upward, thank you for all the comments.

PS I still have the major typo of the domain I have sold, which was registered at the same time. So if the company develops it into a major website in the future, and I'm getting 2% of their traffic eg customers there could be another pot of gold on the horizon! Although I will get considerable legal advice before I go for that one!

Turning reg fee into 5k in two months is pretty rare and impressive. Congrats.

Be careful with typos of TM domains... companies are not always willing to negotiate. They bite too
