Look i understand many of you have invested ALLOT in
.com and worried about the fast succes of .Me.

.me is just another .mobi, only worse: it's a country TLD.

Other than a handful of sales of keywords that form "hacks", such as date.me, kiss.me etc. there has been no indication of a "fast success".

Unless you count simply the number of registrations by lemmings.

Look i understand many of you have invested ALLOT in
.com and worried about the fast succes of .Me.

Now i am even being told i can not post more in the news section about .dot Me.

So domain news section is only for .com news?
I don't see one single news post of .com that have been removed or moved.

Come lets keep this a fair forum for all extentions.
We are all paying to use this great forum and all deserve equal rights
in posting in the domain news section.
Otherwise news section should be called dot.com news section

also
f33

If you look there is already over 1,3 Million .Me pages in google and that after only 2½ months!!! - this is really amazing.

The facts are all pointing at a big succes for .Me
and yes .Com will always be a King - but the facts are showing a Prince baby called .Me has been born

Time will tell friends:)

you were asked to stop promoting .me in "Domain News" section for a reason.

every thread you have started in this section or on this forum for that matter, is about or ends up discussing .me names.

.me has it's own discussion section and you have created dozens of threads relating to the sale of .me domains, which if not started there, were moved there.

we don't need to see .me all over the forum, like we saw .mobi when it was launched.

final point:

investing in domain names is not news...it's what we do every day!

ok...some of the short catchy names, could be brandable but after those...

Not4.me

.com and worried about the fast succes of .Me.

I think its just that some of the people who have been doing this for 10 years have seen the introduction of TLDs a bunch of times already (.cc, .ws, .st, .md, .fm, .us .mobi, .info, .biz, etc) and knows how it all plays out, especially with the country-code TLDs. A lot of hype how useful the extension is, how popular it will be, the cute little configurations of the domain (my favorite was delicio.us!).

I'm not saying that you can't make a non-dot-com extension a popular site. You certainly can as long as you provide something people want, and promote it properly. But if you're going to put a substantial amount of time and money in developing a site, it helps to get the benefits of credibility and prestige with a .com.

As for investing in .me, there is a small market (I would imagine mainly domainers caught up in the frenzy) and some money to be made, especially if you got in at the beginning and picked up some of the best keywords (health, credit, travel, sex, movies, music, flowers, etc). Congratulations to those who picked up some of those for the initial registration fees, or for low prices. I hope they work out for you, as I own Japanese IDNs and hope my bets pay off for me too!

No, I don't think people mainly into .coms worry about the success of .me, or any other extension. In fact, we would like to see those "unlimited" extensions become a reality. More TLDs means more confusion and elevates the value of .com.

Time will tell but remember folks;) nobody did in starting years of .com think there whould be so much money in investing in .com domains.
Peaple would think you where a nut case if you had paid $100.000 for a .com then and same domain could be selling now for millions.

Again .me has AlL the facts and super good news to be a major player and would not be smart to ignure this.

Because internet is all about Youand.Me

That's funny.

There's a difference between bashing and giving an opinion. I admit, some great keywords in any extension can be sold for a profit. Especially if you get them at reg fee or low reseller price.

Domain Name Current Price Bids
toyota.me $90,025 110
toyota.me - $90,025 !?!?! Come on! Something is screwie in St. Louie!

In that list I see nothing but:

1. Domain hacks
2. A few usual suspects: keywords sought after regardless of extension
3. Umm, that's it.

In other words, the other 1.2 million .me domains were bought by lemmings, just like the .mobi mania freaks.

.me domains are evolving at a rapid pace - coming from a pure .com investor. To test the market, I picked up just one .me domain (cost me the same as a fresh Pizza): Publishing.me - I gave myself 48 hrs to find a buyer (end user or reseller). I sold 1 day later for $2,500!

.me has also done very well at the TRAFFIC auction in NEW YORK. And they are often ahead of the domaining crowd concerning future trends.

No one can judge this extension before giving it a chance to flourish and mature. Let's wait 6mths to a year (minimum) and come back to this subject. Judging at this early stage is about as useful as trying to predict how long it will take before our economy is back on track. Only TIME will tell...[/quote]

Yes very true
good post!!!

Here is 10 reasons again why .Me is a great investment:

Here are 10 Reasons why (I think) .me is a bad investment..

Frankly, end users, the real marketplace, will be the ones to make the decision on this. Right now some domainers are in love with this new buying opportunity and may very well be inflating the values. From what I can tell most end users would rather have 'e-VaguelyCoherent1.COM' than anything else with any other extension.

As for myself, I am in the 'Not.ME' crowd. That probably means that you'd be well advised to go out and buy up every 'vaguely coherent' .ME domain that you can dream up!

I am a little bit biased because i am on .me train, however i think end users will ultimately decide. Actually before investing in .me i asked a lot of my clients who are not into domains what they thought of .me extension and many said that it sounds interesting. So the question is do short, pretty and brandable domains have a future or is it all about traffic?

Thats also why we see all this bashing from some because .me is really having succes already.

It is since domainers are caught up in paying obnoxious prices! This does not mean that these names will be sold profitably or become significant websites.

I've got to wonder why anyone would have paid $24,189 for 'aweso.me' (God that's a horrible name!) and it's just possible (even highly likely!) that the owner of lawyers.info would have accepted $16,905 for it. Thats an infinitely better extension for that word no matter how well .ME does in the end!

BTW - Didn't anyone in 'basic domains 101' learn that what comes after the 'dot' should not have anything to do what comes after the 'dot'? Would you want 'Americom.COM' or 'Ameri.COM'? Lots of people tried this with .US as well as in 'Carsr.US'. At least they only paid about $5.00 at the time. Can anyone think of a significantly used domain that uses what comes before and after the 'dot' together as a phrase or word?? I can't.

Here is a great forbes.com article about .me DotComGod just posted in the Library > Domain Names

.NEW YORK, BUSINESS WIRE -- The upstart domain extension DotMe (www.domain.me) has launched with a bang. Intermarketing's Peter Nilson reports, "Due to the success and potential of the ME domain, our company is preparing to use the extension for several of our clients' upcoming marketing campaigns."

I think what will give .me a jump start is when a big company like pepsi, google, mac or someone uses one in a major ad campaign so people can even hear about it. Has anyone heard of that happening?

thanks,

willie

Adam's posts about news are automated/RSS feeds so I doubt he personally endorses .me as you wish to make it sound ;) Also, the article itself is nothing more than a press release, not an independent review.

 Rick has recently stated that he has invested in the .me

http://www.domainsmalltalk.com/2008/10/06/interview-with-rick-schwartz/

"Any other extensions to be aware of?

I am a .com guy. I dabble in .mobi and I have a partnership with some high profile .me domains. So I am not the best person to respond to this. I am very biased. What I will say is no matter what extension, don’t waste your money on crap. Buy only premium keyword type domains and your risk will be much less."

why am i biased? it's just an interview, and that was his response.

Honestly, I like .com, .org, .mobi, .tv, .pro and .me. That's how I see the game. I'm very prochoice in the matter. If you are CNO, cool, good luck with your initiatives.
