I've been following this story since I first caught wind of it.

Now, the official ruling has been issued.

Fishing Team Disqualified, Loses $900,000 Prize
One Team Member Did Not Have License

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. -- The board of directors of a North Carolina fishing tournament has disqualified the boat which landed the 883-pound winning catch because a crew member didn't have a fishing license.

A statement issued Tuesday by the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament said the 'mate' aboard the Citation didn't have a coastal recreational license as required by law. Competitors were reminded of the requirement prior to the start of the tournament.

Nancy Fish of the N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries said Peter Wann of Alexandria, Va., was cited on Sunday. She said Wann purchased the license more than two hours after landing the marlin on June 14.

The disqualification also cost the Citation nearly $1 million in prize money. The tournament board declared Carnivore the winner with its 528.3-pound blue marlin.

Can you imagine how pissed the captain of the Citation must be?

Rules were posted prior to the tourney outlining the rules.

The mate attempted to purchase his license 2 hours after the tourney finale.

That sucks but I guess those are the rules.

"Can you imagine how pissed the captain of the Citation must be?"

With that much money at stake, he should checked and double checked his crew. I'm sure he's pissed at that person and probably himself some.

Many years ago my Husband won 1st place in the Bianchi Barracade event at the Bianchi cup... One of this biggest shooting matches in the world, But he was later disqualified because his ammo didn't meet the required velocity, Before you go up to the line, they pull 6 rounds from your bag and test it with a chronograph, the ammo tested was only a few feet per second short. He was devastated, and they refused to let him shoot the match again... The fact he scored higher in that event than anyone else did, burns him to this day... It just doesn't seem fair giving the award to someone who scored lower just because of a minor technicality like that, That's when he started losing interest in the sport altogether.

He tested the ammo before he left, but were in California and the event was in Missouri, where the humidity is high in July.

Sometimes rules just SUCK!

It took over three hours to land it.

Here is the story about the person who caught the fish:

http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7019009110

The fish itself was a tourney record.

The fish was also worth $318,750 from the tournament's prize pool.

Now, check this out!

The person making the winning catch ALSO LOST OUT ON THE WINNINGS!

The fish is disqualified and the boat is disqualified!

Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament team loses $1.2 million prize over $30 fishing license

Big Rock officials declared Tuesday that runner-up Carnivore, of Cape Carteret, NC, is the official winner for a 528.3-pounder caught on the third day by John Parks of Jacksonville, NC.
