Actually they had some b*lls :D As they registered the domain during the Sunrise period - only way to do that is when you have a tm for the domain.

It will be interesting in 100 years. At the rate the USP&O is allowing weak patents and public words to be TM'd, we will have to pay to speak or think!!

Well it makes sense, the first modern Olympics took place in 1896, therefore there was no US "Olympic team" before that :D

But they applied for a tm in 1998 ! That's only 102 years later.

Quiz time:

Which domain is still available in its .US & .biz formats - the net/org/info are owned by the International Olympic Committee and the .COM by.....our very own UKPro!

It's a latin phrase that ends in "us" :D

I like .us but Olympics or OlympicGames would seem to be more sensible, who goes to see the Olympic.

Just my thoughts.

For those who don't know, the USOC has a special Federal statute that governs the use of the word "OLYMPIC" (and other terms), and several UDRP panels have said that the mere registration of domain names containing the OLYMPIC mark is bad faith. So be careful.

www.usolympicteam.com and olympic.us both resolve to the same site.

usolympicteam.com is shown as a URL on the site, but it will not resolve, without the www prefix. A mis-configured IIS server could cause this, additionally, some web server software
does not support the use on non-www names at all.

USOC has a million rules about the Olympic rings, and all other Olympic symbols and icons. The 1980 games were in NY, and one poster depicted that years mascot (a racoon) with it's paws through one of the rings. That poster was pulled post haste, and the ones that were sold are now collectors items.

1980 Olympics were in Moscow (the ones the US didn't participate in).

Ah ok. I am referring to the 'summer' Olympics that obviously get most of the credit :D In that sense, what is the Special Olympics mascot? :D
